      Good mission, generally good place to work but room for improvement.

      Pros

      An association of college and university CFOs, the work is meaningful. Members are great to work with, and the collegial nature of higher education makes our job of sharing best practices and information easier. The small staff allows room for growth. Flexible personnel polices, 35 hour work week, good benefits including great retirement savings. Part of active DC association community.

      Cons

      Employees are not always valued as they deserve to be and information is not shared forthrightly. Very slow to recruit new employees to fill vacancies, counting on existing staff to cover for months. Investment in technology often not driven by business needs.

      Pros

      Good benefits, 35 hour work week. Members are great and very dedicated and involved.

      Cons

      The organization is entirely too top-heavy, and decisions are made and haphazardly implemented. The organization used to appreciate its employees and promote cooperation (and advancement from within) much more than they currently do. Now they make it clear that anyone can be replaced, although they do not realize the depth of institutional knowledge they lose until after the fact. You would think NACUBO was a huge corporate entity, but they only employ 50-60 personnel.

      Pros

      It was a great place to work. The people were lovely and everyone had a passion for what they did.

      Cons

      It was hard to help change culture at times because people were set in their ways. It was slow but worked.
