Pros

- Supporting social services sector which can be very satisfying, suitable for those with a passion for the sector - Some great colleagues around who have a heart for social service but have to find the opportunity to meet them

Cons

- The guidelines for social service are not always clear/realistic for some organisations as they can vary a lot in size, mission, competency. - Some really inward looking colleagues just looking to protect their rice bowl, watch the clock and avoid work, can be very toxic

Pros

I cant say for other divisions, my division was not micro-managing. Met a few nice colleagues which this place nicer.

Cons

The management is on survival mode, fire fighting to replace someone or to convince someone to cover more duties (with zero compensation because it is your assigned duty). Therefore, whatever talks about digitalisation and transformation are all more than a fluff to look good. In addition, unfair compensation to current staff. The new hires were majority SM with minimal or no relevant experience to the roles. The lower rank staff have to do their work for months (rephrase: lower rank doing the work of more senior persons). Yet the lower rank staff has to perform well enough to be considered for promotion. From what I observed, some lower rank staff outperformed the higher rank who cruised along and bootlicked. Feedbacks provided were met with gaslighting comments - why keep bringing these up, you need to move on; how can you state facts to them when you don't understand their challenges. Overall, a toxic environment.

Replace the CEO and her side-kicks

Pros

Opportunity to work with passionate people from the social service agencies. Nice work environment in the office despite on-going renovations in the surroundings. Fair and strong DCE despite his loud and direct mannerisms.

Cons

CEO often claims and steals credit for herself and for those she favours. While she preaches that SMT and HODs should be responsible for leading the transformation and sector developer work, she does not put into practice what she preaches and pushes the responsibility of leadership down to the DCE and the directors who make the real effort to do the heavy lifting, and puts the blame on them and others when there's feedback. She only appears to take over and be hands on when majority of the negotiations and tough work have been completed.
