Pros

You will rapidly learn that you deserve better from an employer. The company turnover rate means you will very quickly establish a network of contacts in other companies across the sector.

Cons

It's not so much that the company is a rudderless ship, rather that the Directors seem intent on wilfully steering the ship towards every rock, reef, and jagged coastline in sight. Rudderless would be an improvement. The staff consists almost exclusively of an ever-changing roster of either fresh graduates, or others trying to break into the industry. The company then frequently tenders for work which their employees lack the experience and expertise to deliver effectively. Consequently, they company seems to be in a perpetual state of either an existing project disaster, or heading towards the next one. The Directors take zero accountability for their decisions, actions, or for their company as a whole. They respond to the chaos they create by leaving their undervalued staff rescue every situation without any support. Sadly, the Directors never walk so far away as to risk losing the ability to fire abuse, blame, and criticism at their employees at every opportunity. The concept of a 'no-blame culture' only extends to the Directors themselves - everyone else is very much in the firing line. This would be bad enough if expectations were in anyway reasonable or sensible, but they rarely are. Instead, you'll spend a disproportionate amount of your time pandering to the Directors' narcissism and egotism, or suffering their astounding ignorance. All of this results in an average staff retention period most appropriately measured in days, weeks, or months... but certainly not years. Save yourself the trauma and look elsewhere. What you stand to gain from OSC will not be worth the cost.

Pros

Easy to start a career

Cons

Working here was one of the worst professional experiences I’ve had. The directors foster a toxic environment and show absolutely no care for the employees. Excessive hours with no rest days or proper payment are the norm. Any small mistake is exaggerated and publicly exposed to colleagues in the most unprofessional and rude manner imaginable. Instead of valuing their team, the directors constantly try to undermine employees, making them feel unworthy of even the bare minimum they provide. They prioritize chasing new clients and projects at all costs, completely disregarding the wellbeing of their staff. Overwhelmed employees are left unsupported, expected to take on impossible workloads with no guidance or recognition. If you’re not desperate, do not work for this company. And if you’re a potential client, I strongly urge you to avoid them. They treat their employees and contractors with such disrespect that it inevitably impacts the quality of their work. Choose wisely – your career or project deserves better.

Pros

If you have no other experience (e.g. recent graduate) you can gain some industry experience working for this company.... by being thrown in the deep end, expected to deliver impossible tasks within impossible deadlines, and given zero support from managers.

Cons

Basically everything about this company!!! Managers are a horrendous combination of insanely egotistical, patronising, condescending and micro-managey for small and uninmportant tasks, but equally are no help for large and challenging tasks that actually require support. Managers consistently blame employees for not delivering on impossible tasks and deadlines. The company tenders for projects that they have zero expertise in, and zero staff that specialise in those topics, then scrambles to deliver for clients, usually by making up some rubbish last-minute pseudoscience. Very limited scientific expertise in top management team (which is only 2 people), and the general standard of science is low. Also, frequent and suspicious overlap between 'company' finances/assets, and Directors 'personal' assets, For example, 'company' boat that never once was used in the water for work. Pay and holiday allowance is rubbish in comparison to wider industry, and employees are often paid late. No flexibility in working from home, or even consideration for personal circumstances such as health appointments. Not a nice or welcoming environment to work for. Tiny office. I could go on...
