Pros

Exposure to some of the coolest events in Edmonton Modern and fun office space Young, dynamic employee group Strong Mission/Vision statement

Cons

No change management whatsoever; not enough time or focus spent on building a strong foundation that supports employees Poor alignment between departments - lots of silos "High School" mentality in some areas - cliques, popularity contests, etc. Pay is below average for entry and mid-level positions

Pros

If you like hockey, you'll like working for the Oilers. There are a lot of perks (discounted tickets, autographed stuff, "VIP" access to bars and events, etc.)

Cons

If you actually want to make a decent living or have a personal life during the season, then a job in pro sports is not for you. Long, unpredictable hours. Low pay. High turnover, because people burn out or realize that hockey isn't everything. When I worked there, you couldn't wear jeans on Fridays, even in the off-season. Really?! It's a friggin' sports team, not a law firm. Staff work hard enough in suits/dress clothes evenings and weekends all season, let your staff wear jeans when they can.
