Freelancers are our go to grunts and slaves, treated like undocumented workers. The pay structure is deeply unfair for me i thought but its worth for the temps—if they decide your work is “unwanted,” you won’t get paid for that week, no matter how much you produced. The editorial guidance is constantly changing, and feedback is contradictory depending on who you talk to. Communication feels opaque. You’re expected to produce polished, highly technical deliverables with little notice, and then may be ignored or cut off without warning. Morale seems low, and there is unusually high turnover—especially among writers and editors. It’s demoralizing.
