•too damn corporate. too formal. staff hardly even speaks to each other and there are 10 conference calls A DAY.
•unrealistic internship expectations. They assume every graduate intern they hire is just dying to get a full time offer there so they take EVERY opportunity to haze you. Yes, haze. If you dare mess up or even make a typo in notes/a document, you'll be scorned and discussed with the entire company via IM
•Interns must arrive to the office by 8am every morning or else again, you'll be discussed and scorned and patronized about your laziness and how you need to "look like you want to be there." If you get to the office at 9am like a normal person, you're late and yelled at. Yes, yelled at. If you keep doing it afterwards they'll fire you. (9am is a normal time to show up to a full time job but ok). They'll create timely assignments/deadlines around 8am that you'll need to arrive as early as 7:30 am to complete. All a part of their game.
•Interns work longer than the full time staff, whom already work around 55 hours per week. 12 hour days about 4 times a week. Come around 8, leave around 8:30pm. You're told you must get there before everyone and leave after everyone. It's part of the hazing and will give you devil wears Prada anxiety. Unhealthy..
•Don't work here unless you want to develop an anxiety disorder. You will need Valium because this place will make you a nervous wreck. Almost fainted at work several times due to stress as an INTERN + no lunch breaks and jam packed with projects EVERY DAY. (Yes, they legally give you 1hr a day for lunch, but they schedule all these calls in the afternoon and will jam pack your schedule so you can't take lunch. If you dare get up for lunch and are gone for an hour, they'll scorn you.
•Controlling managers and staff. Again, hazing. Not even allowed to have a phone out and visible. Must be in your bag. You can't reply to texts quickly in-between projects like a normal human. Even though the full time staff checks their phones periodically everyday. SO many control tactics
•All around shady company, poor ethics. They don't pay interns for 6.5 weeks from their start date. Enjoy borrowing about $1K from your parents in the meantime to cover transportation, food, bills, rent, etc. Hope you have the privilege to survive in NYC for almost two months with no income!
•Hostile and stiff environment. Company lies about budget cuts/funds to cut imperfect interns that make too many typos by saying your term has to be cut short due to company finances but they'll have another intern in your seat the next week. Again, just pure unethical..
