Pros

Fantastic mission and a great spirit behind the team to deliver great learning experiences. Interacting with visitors is also, 8 times out of 10, a great joy. Job roles are very fluid--you'll end up performing a lot of different roles throughout the museum which helps keeps things interesting

Cons

Few clear places for career progression at the museum. It can make the job feel more like a cul-de-sac

Pros

Supportive staff, Easy to advance, Fun environment, free admission/shows for staff and a certain number of their friends per month.

Cons

Maybe update the technology because it causes problems for staff and makes customers impatient. Maybe remodel some exhibits.

Pros

People: every goodbye letter anyone wrote talked about how great 90% of the staff there were. Place: a science center is an interesting cool place to work. Benefits: it's not fair to compare a non-profit-museum no less- to the giant tech corporations in Seattle. Benefits and perks (movies, laser shows, cool events) were decent and far superior to what I have now in a mid-sized for-profit firm. Would recommend to a friend with strong disclaimers (see Cons).

Cons

I left because my expertise was not values; ideas were not taken seriously. Very low pay, just one raise in 5 years (not even cola). Genuine interest in advancing equity issues was not matched by genuine efforts. Expecting to run a large education/entertainment venue like a start-up was admirable but not always practical. Priority was placed on guest satisfaction (public ratings) over staff was de-moralizing.
