      Low Starting Pay But Annual Raises

      Pros

      Very structured work with guidelines for most everything you do. Lots of branch-level and system-wide committees to break up the monotony. Supportive work environment.

      Cons

      Very low starting pay for professional positions. Very limited ability for promotion to higher level Librarian positions. A Librarian I can only promote to a Librarian II which is Head of Children's. and I really don't want to be a Children's Librarian.

      Bullying supervisors are rewarded with promotions

      Pension. Health insurance. Tuition refund.

      Cons

      They promote supervisors who have a track record of bullying to senior management positions. Management protects each other. Favoritism - they promote their favorites even if they are not the most qualified. Senior management NEVER works with the public. Managers never work at night - those of us who are required to work at night arrive at work the next morning like zombies.
