Pros

I'll try to just write a few: 1. Everyone at Parabol deeply cares about the humans that work here. I've never worked at a company with this level of trust before. 2. I suspect that most successful tech companies will look more like Parabol in the next ~10 years: highly transparent, value trust, fully remote with retreats, minimal meetings, empowering employees to make company wide changes, etc. These things don’t just make us happier but make business sense - I would bet money that the average tenure at Parabol will drastically exceed the industry average. Everyone is learning a valuable skill by being here and “living in the future.” 3. The company is doing well and we have high standards. A concern that I had in my pre-remote days was that remote work is great for lifestyle but not so good for career progression. I’m delighted that I’m learning more now than I was in an office and the company trajectory is very promising. 4. It’s an exciting time to join. Everyone at Parabol right now will hopefully get to see a tiny start-up grow into at least a medium sized one which should be an interesting and valuable experience.

Cons

Remote work is an overwhelming pro for me but it's not for everyone. Also, employees based in Eastern Europe or Asia might have to attend late meetings (although we have very few regular meetings).

Pros

- Minimal meetings per week (usually ~2 hours per week) and plenty of time for deep work. The meetings that do take place are structured and efficient, using Parabol's own tool! - Async-first way of working so you can engage when it works for you. Helpful with the spread of timezones. - Company encourages working at a sustainable and manageable pace over hustle culture and all-nighters - Self-directed work and a lot of autonomy to push forward in the areas that make most sense to you - Kind, caring, and thoughtful colleagues. I don’t think I ever worked in a company before where people were so empathetic with one another - Culture of genuine continuous improvement - Everyone has a chance to shape the direction of the company through democratic decision-making processes - Mission-driven team. Everyone wants to make meetings better and solve a real problem. - Colleagues are generous with their time and feedback to help improve your work - Location agnostic pay and clear career progression without lobbying or annual performance reviews

Cons

The company is still young, which means many policies are being created for the first time (e.g. D&I, equipment policy, public holidays, etc), so there is sometimes a bit of ambiguity. On the flip side, everyone has the opportunity to propose, amend, or shape new or existing policies, so if there’s tension around an issue, you are empowered to take it into your own hands and propose a solution.

Pros

- everything open source === awesome sauce - CEO is very technical - modern and clean codebase - high coding quality standards - inspiring and kind coworkers - incredible high trust in senior and executive leadership - excellent health insurance for US employees

Cons

- DE&I could be improved, but we're working on it - no 401K or home office stipend etc., mostly bc we're young and hyper focused on hiring now - the pace can sometimes feel slow compared to a startup that has their blinders on hockey-stick growth above all else
