1) Any member of HR not in management will become victim of being a scapegoat for issues. Management does not take ownership of mistakes and will blame others. Someone needs to fall on the sword when errors happen but it will never be management.
2) Pay appropriate wages. Paramit believes that since they are located in Morgan Hill they can pay employees a lower wage compared to the rest of the bay area. The issue is all of the talent is located at least 15 miles north! Best way put, they want to pay Morgan Hill comp for bay area talent. Qualified candidates would laugh at me when presenting targeted compensation during phone screen conversations. I lost qualified candidates within market rate when offers from HR came out 10 - 20% lower than what they are asking for. Guess who gets blamed for this? You betcha, the recruiter.
3) If you live in Morgan Hill or plan to move to Morgan Hill you will have an immediate advantage vs candidates living elsewhere. I had a candidate set to interview with the hiring manager and the day before the interview HR stepped in saying to cancel because the candidates commute would be too long.
4) Need to invest in an ATS. Paramit uses a paper filing system and the recruiter is supposed to cross reference old resumes against new applicants. Since everything is printed it is very easy to get lost and disorganized. Also, each candidate needs to be reviewed by HR. The recruiter will never feel empowered due to these constant check ins.
5) You can do simple online searches when sourcing from popular websites, but since the company is too cheap to pay for subscriptions even if you find someone qualified you can’t contact them. With majority of candidates being manufacturing, most don't have an online presence. You are handcuffed from the start!
6) Company really only hires candidates from other CMs. If you find a candidate from an OEM or any other industry you are already behind the eight ball. Managers are stuck in their ways and not willing to budge on their requirements.
7) HR leadership have been working side by side for over 10 years together and its their way or the highway. If you like to be micromanaged this is the place for you! Daily you need to inform what you are working on, where you are going, what conference room you are in so they know where to find you, and updates on reqs at least 3 times a day. I recommended having bi weekly syncs on updates due to the overload of so many one off meetings but guess what? That happened for maybe 3 days then back to the old habits.
8) You will never feel like you are doing a good job here. In fact, in my 3 months working there every feedback given to me was neutral or negative comment. Not once did I receive positive encouragement on anything. I'm a firm believer in giving the good, the bad, and the ugly with feedback but you can only take so much when there is zero positivity in the work place. It would have been nice to hear a 'hey good job on closing this position' just once but that never happened.
