The lowest point of my career, not what I expected at all.

Pros

Nice staff. Drinks in the office on a Friday afternoon. Discounts on products.

Cons

So many!! To sum it up the owners were a couple when they started the company and broke up whilst still running it (to this day) so go figure the complications. They’re clueless on people management, and management in general. I’m shocked it’s still running. It’s not like your usual workplace. The vibe was flat. They’re in debt. Once or twice we even had suppliers walk into the premises demanding payments. There was constant debt collector phone calls, unpaid super, it was not a nice environment. Most staff seemed tired and demotivated, and there was hardly any support or communication from management at any given time. Don’t think working for them will be a positive experience. You wont have growth or satisfaction. The male owner was angry, and unpredictable also. I witnessed him losing it a few times, and hitting on the young girls I worked with. AVOID!

Pros

Some floor staff in the warehouse seem nice but I doubt they’ll continue working there under the horrendous conditions. Some may have already left.

Cons

Vibe is flat and depressed. Mouldy warehouse, large gaping hole in the roof, warehouse staff referred to by management as ‘sewer rats’ and, at times, completely ignored by management. Recording devices set up to monitor your conversations, paid minimum wage and at times there’s no work, your only option is to ‘fold clothes’ to pass the time. Hundreds of items returned by customers that we were ‘not allowed’ to process as it was deemed to be ‘losing them too much money’. Also heard of other staff being sent to the toilet paper factory down the street (the owners other company ‘HowWeRoll’) when contracted to Peppermayo. Honestly, I’m not sure how the company stays afloat or where management get the idea that they can treat people this way. It’s sickening. Seems as though they take advantage of vulnerable people who desperately need the money and the conditions are terrible so staff turnover is HIGH. Save yourself the horrendous experience and look for work elsewhere!

Pros

The staff are all great people but unfortunately it doesn’t make working here any less terrible.

Cons

Every day working here was hell. There is a reason their reviews are so low and their staff turnover is so high. The average employee’s stay was just 3-6 months. The owners have no idea how to manage people or run a business. It felt like they were only just staying afloat and were in huge debt. Staff wages were never paid on time and usually on a different day every week. The office environment is completely lifeless and dull. Nobody talks. The only sound is the boss’s constant laughter at her own jokes that others have to pretend to laugh at. Staff are all sat there with the same sad ‘How did my life come to this?’ expression on their face. There is no fresh air or natural light. The bathrooms, kitchen and bins are all dirty. The working hours are 8:30am-5:00pm, with just a 30 minute lunch break (which I don’t even think is legal). The workload never stops. The moment you finish running yourself into the ground to churn out one huge collection - another huge collection is ready to go. The hard work you do will never be appreciated by the boss who just sits at her laptop all day long micro managing the staff through the office group chat. I never saw one staff member be appreciated. I think they don’t give staff praise or compliments in case it might lead them to ask for a raise. There is zero potential for growth. Nobody had ever gotten a promotion or raise. Most are kept at junior positions while still doing the work of a senior. There is no HR department to take your concerns to and trust me there will be many. Everyone is just there until they find something better. This job will not further your career in fashion. Even the interns who volunteered there with fashion dreams quickly ran. This is just a hustle to sell as many rip off designs at cheap prices as possible. They make it as hard as possible for customers to get their money back for returns. Their only principles are making money. They do not care about you at all and you will feel it. You can turn up as motivated and positive minded as you like but it will not be noticed. This place will soon crush your spirit, make you hate your life, and it will get harder and harder every day to turn up.
