Sinking ship

Pros

Great clientele, beautiful updated facility. lots of perks for employees like free bowling, free arcade, discounted food. Employee appreciation parties create a family atmosphere among staff.

Cons

It's the kind of place where management never thinks they are at fault. Managers are pulled every direction with no training, employees are trained by managers who are making up the rules as they go or by other staff that was thrown at the new people with no preparation. Upper management was more interested in adding bells and whistles to their facility instead of approving raises for staff on multiple occasions, only bending to give raises when staff threatens to quit. From the outside looking in everything is smooth and classy, but if you get a chance to see how the sausage is made it is a brutally favoritist system that chooses to take advantage of their employees under the guise of "good business decisions". HR is either biased or non existent in most cases, several times HR issues were swept under the rug by HR themselves. Managers are told continually to protect the interests of the company over the interests of their employees. Rumors are allowed to spread aggressively, toxic work environment complaints and sexual harassment complaints are largely ignored. Not a healthy work environment for those spending full time there. Looking at other reviews and seeing that the owner wants to get on glass door and argue about every negative review is really indicative of the leadership style here.

Thanks for taking the time to review Pinheads. It sounds like your experience was not great. Pinheads is working hard to improve the team member experience and the culture. We are not a perfect company, but I disagree with the idea of us being a sinking ship. We are striving to be better each day. We can never do enough to show appreciation to our dedicated team. Their efforts are beyond measure. Thank you for your time spent at Pinheads. I hope you find employment that better suits your needs. (Dysfunctional) Family Work Environment

Pros

Flexible hours, potential to be a fun work environment, new management seems to be trying to make things better

Cons

It’s hard to know where to begin on this one. The biggest thing is culture and the way employees are treated, closely followed by organization. As with most small businesses, they claim to be “like a family,” but this culture is not implemented whatsoever. Coworkers are nasty to one another, upper management does not effectively listen to the suggestions of those on the ground floor, and there’s a problem with favoritism in this company. Some people get put on a pedestal or given several chances when they really don’t deserve it, and good employees are treated poorly and sometimes even used as scapegoats for any and all issues. By failing to act when an employee is negatively impacting the work environment, you show that you do not care about your good employees. As for organization, there isn’t. Training is very disorganized, resulting in new employees being inadequate and thus affecting future employees, spiraling down in poorly trained staff all around. Very reluctant to give official titles to anyone, so it’s hard to distinguish who’s in charge of what. On that note, they also like to hire outside for higher positions instead of considering people who have worked there for longer and have not only proven themselves, but have more relevant experience than an outside hire. Because of all these issues, there’s a very high turn-around rate; many past employees end up quitting within a year. All in all, there’s a lot of work needed to make a proper work environment for everyone.

Pros

Some good coworkers, flexible hours, good employee discounts, staff parties

Cons

Understaffed, blatant favoritism, expected to do work outside of job description, took advantage of work ethic, poor communication, unreliable management, expected to work multiple positions alone, lack of professionalism, empty promises for advancement, no accountability, unfair evaluations, false sense of hope

Do you feel this is a little harsh given that Covid has caused businesses like this huge hardship over the last year? Many have gone under and some people have lost their life savings. Pinheads did a lot to keep their staff taken care of. Even paying people when it didn’t have to. Government restrictions made it impossible to schedule the personnel hours like they were in 2019. Pinheads welcomes criticism... allowing all ideas to be shared every Wednesday. As an owner, I’m sorry, but Never heard any of this. (Supervisors are invited and occasionally attend) But we will accept this critique and try to adapt and do better. Always improving. That’s what we do.
