Pros

Great coworkers who give an otherwise miserable experience some joy. Some flexibility in hours and sometimes a hybrid schedule. Some learning potential for out of college students.

Cons

ProActive (PAT), since day one, always had some level of discontent for the employees. It was obvious that we were nothing but headcount to be thrusted at whatever project we were meant to salvage. However, since management created unsalvageable situations with their general cluelessness for what a project actually needed - only ever judging the needs of a project based on the most basic metrics and burn downs - they would blame all the workers on the team. The issue really lies on all levels of management; the amount of good and/or decent managers could be counted on one hand. Even with that, I doubt that the workers' sentiments towards management would be as unfavorable as it is if there was any real communication. You'd imagine for as much of a small business PAT is, you'd hear something from upper management. Nope, crickets. The only time you do hear anything is when they do a round of layoffs and you get the confirmation from them that everything is perfectly good. "Look, workers! You have benefits and retirement, and the contracts will come if only you put in just that bit of extra effort!" The benefits are not good. Retirement? What retirement? ESOP can't help when the company is perpetually going downwards. Promoting that thing as someone's potential livelihood post retirement is beyond scummy. The CEO is not even worth talking about. He has barely existed in the office for almost a year... so much for touting an "open-door policy" to talk about any issues with him. When he used to talk at meetings, it was always off topic and out-of-touch with the employees on every front. I'd understand if the CEO just decided to fully retire, but that's not what has happened here. Not him nor upper management has even acted as being affected by the last couple years of this company's history. They're a brick wall. Morale is dead. The company is dead. Some workers remain, but it just seems like a majority is management at this point. Maybe they're going into hibernation until they're able to do a new round of hirings? Let's say they come back from the dead as a zombie and start hiring again. Who would want to work for something like that? Sure, there's likely some worse out there, but have some self love and look elsewhere. If there was ever something valuable here, it either got laid off or ran for its life.
