Pros

During the integration of an acquired company, I was able to work with a team of incredibly talented people to achieve process transition and product development milestones while merging the perceptions and expectations of two corporate cultures. We shipped hardware and software faster than the acquired company ever had, and the products were as or more sophisticated than those the acquiring company normally develops. Learning both organizations' methodologies and coaching the convergence to drive results under tight timeframes was a career high for me.

Cons

QSC advertises itself as flat, meritocratic, and egalitarian. This may be true for some parts of the company. As it shifts from an Orange County manufacturing company to a global tech company it will need to recognize the dynamics of nurturing new or outside talent versus bowing to the influence of entrenched organizational authority. There is a bully culture at QSC. Those who have influence can easily marginalize those who do not. Certain untouchables can wave a hand and ruin your tenure at this company. Coalitions are built in hallway conversations so ascending stars or entrenched dinosaurs can neutralize threats. Well qualified and ambitious high performers are held to account by managers who want to take credit for their work, but are scared to see them shine, or worse...to be questioned by them. People with consulting backgrounds with no direct industry expertise are hired into leadership positions, so there are a lot of meetings about what to do, and the meeting culture is more important than the results the meetings are meant to drive.

We want to thank you for your feedback in the review titled “High achievers should ignore this place”. As you mentioned we are a growing global organization. While we know this presents challenges and frustrations, we also believe in the power of feedback. We seek regular feedback from our employees in an attempt to continue to grow and thrive with the QSC culture intact. We would never promote a bullying culture, and are saddened that this was your experience. With this feedback, we will work with our management team to ensure as we grow there is an acceptance to change and as we add talented people to the QSC team we continue to look to them for a new and fresh perspective. As you continue your journey, we wish you the best of luck.

Pros

It's a nice environment, loved the people. HR organizes a lot of activities.

Cons

In my experience worst management I've dealt with, they have this so called "open door" policy where employees can meet people at all levels, when tried to highlight issues was an absolute waste of effort, the attitude was I'm into much high places why you bother me with this? So things never reach the top and you find yourself working like an ant for the crumbs. Got no recognition, appreciation, support, felt discriminated (truly, one behavior with me, totally different with my peers). Best effort I've put ever, best results ever, worst work experience ever. Just a corporate place where people are numbers and politics rule the top, totally different of what I heard it was decades ago.

Pros

The company puts out strong products in PRO Audio and is gaining a foothold in other markets as well. This helps the company achieve growth targets which would be unsustainable if only focusing on the PRO market. There is no dress code but there is judgement nonetheless. Executives are human beings and have preconceived ideas about what a successful person looks like just like any human would.

Cons

The company culture is imploding. It's a business case in the making for how to take a great company to work for and instill partisanship and bickering between the groups responsible for each market segment. Leadership then denies that it is happening, to themselves and to the workforce. The workforce is NOT fooled. The folks that run the company are so sure of themselves because they are growing the company and meeting targets for the most part, but at what cost? I am not sure what the board members know about the internal strife - they can't be too happy about it.

I would like to reply to your review entitled “Rift”. QSC has a culture built on transparency and that is one of the reasons that we have partnered with Glassdoor. In that spirit, we thank you for your feedback. I want to specifically address your concerns about our culture. We believe that we have a very special culture at QSC and work hard to sustain it. The culture is represented in our six values, one of which is Teamwork. We know that teams can achieve far more than individuals and work really hard to instill this throughout our organization. Employee morale and culture are frequently topics at the Executive Team level as this team does not want to lose touch with anything that might be negatively affecting the culture. In fact, executive management discussions around supporting our people and protecting our culture are oftentimes the most heartfelt and engaging discussions that we have. Every door is open here. Any employee can talk to any member of management when they have a concern. This is encouraged as we actively seek individual’s opinions through town hall meetings, focus groups, staff meetings, and one on one with managers. We have even added this into our everyday culture by encouraging our employees to live above the line. We want to hear from our employees in an authentic and constructive manner. We want people to speak up if there is a concern so that we can address it directly. I wish you had done so when you first became concerned and not waited until now. Our company is full of people who want to see QSC be successful, not just their specific area or market segment. Throughout the many years that QSC has been in business, there have always been times when we needed to invest in certain parts of the business and hold off investments in some areas. Any healthy company makes these trade-offs every year. Thank you for your service to QSC. I sincerely hope that you find a place where you can thrive. Regards, Joe
