Pros

Slow work environment, very low pressure, work/life balance is very good, really friendly people (depending on the team). Company will probably do well despite setbacks due to the space they’re in and how much money they have during the current pandemic.

Cons

Teams are not unified, the attempt to do so is going very poorly, many people leaving, including whole teams(!!!) There will now be a lot of code that is dumped on new hires with no senior developers that worked on it around to onboard or help. Bonuses taken away despite having the best year ever. Be careful negotiating a bonus. Toxic work environment where one team leads and anyone who doesn’t follow is forced to do so or told to “just leave” by the CTO if they don’t like it. Yes, these exact words, multiple times. Truly depressing all—hands meetings that are toxic and demotivating. Not sure if it’s because of the language barrier but the attitude is incredibly negative and the focus is mostly on “joking” about things that are bad (bringing things up in front of everyone to shame them) or talking about things that didn’t go well. Any achievements made by anyone but the CTOs team are entirely ignored. Personal achievements are ignored. If a team does well they will only be mentioned if someone on the CTOs team was involved, primarily mentioning their team member. Feels like current employees are not valued at all and they quite proudly approach everything with “hire more people”. Other software engineers don’t take much ownership when it comes to commucating across teams. Expect to be left hanging when you bring up an issue, it will feel like you’re an unwanted guest while talking to people across teams. You’ll have to push hard to get anything done, and in most cases that will be met with being told to do it yourself or you’ll have time to figure it out. Be prepared to join the “boys club” that is the CTOs crowd of friends or simply not care about the company as a whole, either way it’s toxic and frustrating for either side. You can try ignore it but if you’re passionate and trying to progress yourself you’ll quickly see that won’t work out every well with that dynamic in place.
