Digital solutions is a shambles

Pros

There are very few positives left to working here.

Cons

For a period RES had been a nice place to work but since a poorly executed reorganisation last year all of the digital solutions team has been miserable and most of us looking for the exit. We have no real direction or clear product goals and it has never been communicated as to why the restructuring happened or what its purpose was. There is a distinct lack of leadership in the business with just a vp of product who is never around and a product strategist with little clue how to run a software team. A team lead was fired though they were helping to improve things. and nobody seems to know why. This has killed all morale in the team and 2 developers have already found new jobs. Others have said on here there is no career progression at all and the recent pay rises weren’t good. They pay bonuses but they’re not always that great. Seeing that last year was horrible for many of us I expected that we’d be treated better than this.

Pros

They have offices worldwide, so sometimes you get to travel to very interesting places. There were a lot of good people, but recently the company has done a lot of downsizing, followed by a lot of people leaving voluntarily, and now most of the good people have left, some still there though. Pay is average for the industry, benefits are very good.

Cons

They company has had a "change process" which has been handled extremely poorly. On top of the large numbers of staff that were let go, many have now voluntarily, and sadly its been mostly the good people who've left. The company seem adamant that no matter how many staff they lose, things are fine, and this will never have any kind of impact of work whatsoever. The reality is that getting things done properly is impossible and it is always the people at the bottom who get blamed. There's also a very bad attitude from management of dealing with unpleasant or difficult people. There aren't that many but the few there are can get away with anything, as management don't want to accept there's a problem as it means dealing with it. Again, the people at the bottom of the chain have to work extra hard for the lazy and difficult in the company, as well as being blamed for their mistakes.

Pros

RES develops a lot of its tech in-house, or has done so historically. This means you get to be hands-on with interesting projects. The company has built up a lot of expertise doing this and you'll be surrounded by talented individuals.

Cons

Your experience will largely depend on which business unit you join. Poor management and a challenging macroeconomic environment have led the company to focus on extremely short-term decisions. The result is departments working against each other, individuals focused on self-preservation, and a noticeable exodus of talent. The lack of standardized job titles means that recognition or progression typically only happens when there's a change in personnel or you move to a different role.
