Lacking Leadership

Pros

Smart, friendly, talented designers. Can work from home a couple of days a week. Nice office space.

Cons

Very political and disorganized at the senior / studio director level. Vision of new leadership is questionable at best with constantly changing procedures. It's difficult to keep up with all the changes the organization makes on a daily basis. Not a good place to advance if you're a woman, few senior positions are held by women. Not enough senior staff members to mentor and oversee junior staff. Too many projects. Work life balance is off. Office environment and culture is too big - in the office you're literally in a sea of bodies. Issues with attrition. Working across time zones makes for odd hours that disrupt family life. Managers do not understand need for boundaries unless you have children. Worked a lot of overtime. Pay is so-so, with no pay increase for licensure.

Growing too big too fast

Pros

The people are great. Lots of young, creative designers who do all of heavy lifting. Awesome office interior and hybrid work.

Cons

The office grew too fast over the last couple of years and is too big for its own good. It runs like a tech startup. Designers work almost every weekday past normal business hours. Architecture grind culture has a limit. Leadership was almost entirely male until recently. Lots of ego at the top except for Rios himself and a couple others.
