Pros

No overtime, 8 am to 5 pm job.. Once you get a handle of your responsibilities, you can coast. The pay is decent as one of the other reviewers mentioned. You do get perks around various holidays, which is a very nice gesture by the Company. The business is booming. Located in a convenient location. A walking distance from the Millbrae BART and Caltrain stations.

Cons

The majority of employees have their resumes updated at all times. You never know what is going to set off the Management to let someone go. We have lost many good employees for unknown reasons. You get a three line "Organizational Announcement" email right before 5 pm. The communication flow in the Company is extremely poor. Some of the Executives come and go as they wish and difficult to catch them to move your day to day work forward. After a while, you get discouraged to work hard because these Executives seem to be not vested. The long timers do not like changes. They fight against the changes and are vocal about it. When the timing is right, they can contribute to getting someone to be let go. We just had one hard working person let go because she was for the changes. Many employees are frustrated to see certain employees floating around the office during the day. It is clear that they do not have enough work to do. Unequal distribution of work. No growth opportunity. Not challenging after you know your job.

Pros

1. I’ve never worked for a company that was as generous as this one. Lots of perks, like a Grubhub allowance, free gym membership, hefty bonuses, and fun gifts for almost every holiday. Great way to keep employees quiet and docile. 2. Besides the slackers, there are employees here that are truly amazing to work with. Riggs is super lucky to have them but I hope these people eventually realize that they’re better off working somewhere else.

Cons

1. Communication in the office is terrible and there’s often discrepancies between managers. Too many chefs in the kitchen. 2. Majority of employees have horrible work ethic. I’m baffled at how a single company has managed to attract the laziest people. They never want to be held accountable for anything and only do the bare minimum so they don’t get in trouble. 3. Weird work culture. If management doesn’t like you, good luck. The only way you’ll survive is if you keep your head down, shut up, and do your job. 4. The absolute worst part about this company is the toxic work environment created by the Human Resources Department. They don’t know how to handle issues and, instead of having an open door policy, will make you out to be the villain when you speak out. It’s also obvious that they let their emotions and personal opinions influence their actions.

Pros

There aren't many pros but I'll give credit for the bare minimum that they provide: - Stipend lunch service Yeah that's about it.

Cons

(I STRONGLY ADVISE YOU READ THIS) I wish I had the time and recollection to provide all the cons but this company doesn't care, and they will continue to do so. Management is absolutely abysmal, they are extremely old school and don't take kindly to feedback or employees speaking up. The company promotes this fabrication that they are open to new ideas but are quick to shut down anything that doesn't fall under the response of "yessir or yes ma'am". There is unparalleled nepotism that makes working for the company nearly impossible; you may not see it when you start out but it becomes blindingly clear as time goes on. Management and the CEO's inner circle have an impunity to reprimand thus making the lower level employees subject to constant scolding for things that they may not have even had anything to do with. Due to this same factor, the company has an everlasting turnover rate that reminds me a lot of a revolving door. I was once told by my manager at the time that I "needed to keep my head down and do my work" referring to the fear that me having any other opinion or outlook would lead to termination. Riggs has digressed into a company for people who want to just show up, do their work, get reprimanded and go home at the end of the day. I strongly suggest you do not work for Riggs Distributing if you have an ounce of respect for yourself. They will overwork you, undermine that work, and then eventually find reason (big or small) to fire you. A couple of descriptors that come to mind for Riggs include but are not limited to: - Selfish - Spineless - Not inclusive - Nepotistic - Old School - Money Hungry - Demeaning - Careless - Deceiving I can assure you, I worked for the company and was brought on board with the idea that I can help, that I can make an impact and that they were a glowing example of a company I only hoped to work for. That idea seemed to be true in the beginning but Riggs's true colors began to show once the pandemic hit and it was more about the money and suppression of their employees than anything else. I was absolutely taken advantage of, no fault but my own, because I was given the initial impression that maybe I could change things and have a significant impact; that led to getting overworked and eventual burnout. The company may look great from the outside, but internally they are struggling badly. I loved my fellow colleagues who took the brunt of the work and punches for the CEO and upper management who could care less what was really being said about the company and its lower level employees specifically.

Riggs Distributing Response

Thank you for taking the time to review Riggs Distributing on Glassdoor. We often hear from prospective team members that they have visited our Glassdoor page as they seek to understand what it’s like to work here, and we are grateful for the opportunity to respond to your feedback. Let us start by stating we are confident that your experience was unusual and not shared by most people who work at Riggs Distributing. Overwhelmingly positive employee engagement data as well as a higher than average employee tenure indicates that Riggs provides an employment experience enjoyed and appreciated by most. We are shocked and discouraged to think that a former member of our team could have had an experience as profoundly negative as the one you’ve portrayed here. Reading your account has prompted our team to take a hard look at what transpired and what we can do to prevent a similar experience from happening again. Many of the points raised in your post indicate that you felt like an outsider and betrayed by leaders in our organization. That is indeed disappointing as the team is made up of good people attempting to do good work. Our leaders strive to improve continuously, with humility and respect for one another. You mentioned that the onset of the pandemic was when things became most difficult, and we agree! The past couple years have been unprecedented in our lifetimes, and our company was not immune to the difficulties of managing through such extreme change. It was during that time that the company strove to provide as much flexibility and safety as possible for our team members by moving employees fully remote, adhering unwaveringly to CDC guidelines, and offering the lunch stipend you referenced. Our primary takeaways from your post as well as actions we are taking to address opportunities for improvement are: 1. The organization can improve on communicating our open and available stance on giving and receiving feedback. This includes training for all employees on feedback best practices that is scheduled to take place this quarter. 2. Leadership will consistently communicate how and why people advance within the organization, giving employees the information they need to manage their career growth. This will be a part of our third quarter HR development initiative. 3. This quarter, we are focusing on training to align all supervisors on how to successfully deliver actionable performance feedback and direction that is professional, consistent, and compassionate. Finally, we’ve got a lot of great things going on at Riggs! Our company is financially and operationally healthy and continues to grow and evolve. We recognize that our employees are responsible for our success, and we are very protective of the team culture we’ve created. When a member of the team behaves in any way that is not aligned with our values, they are swiftly invited to be successful elsewhere. Best wishes to you in life and your career.
