Pros

-people who work in store are lovely, down to earth, hardworking -staff discount -guest list to shows in store

Cons

People in shops are sound but management underpay and take everyone for granted. Hypocrisy. Making empty promises. Just a bunch of yes men that tell you what you want to hear and then screw staff over all the time. Spend the whole time bragging about how much money is being made but don’t give a toss about employee welfare, so many people have to take time off for mental health. Tight as when it comes to holiday. Made staff in the warehouse use holiday and sickness allocation during covid when legally required to remain at home meaning that many owed the company time through no fault of their own. It’s a fun job if you like music but just remember the company do not care about you and while “proudly independent” is a multi million pound company and operates no differently.

Pros

Nice team of staff around you. Extremely low pay for the positions you’re in and responsibilities. Get to work with some cool bands/artists. Get staff first picks of vinyl and record store day releases with staff discount on things (33%). People don’t work here for the pay, they work here for the culture. Only left because I couldn’t keep up with how low pay I was on vs what I could’ve got anywhere else. Super sad to leave but it was the reality. Team were lovely, and you can take things under your wing and gain experience if you wish to. It’s a small company you can grow with. Everyone is learning their roles there so you can too, for better or worse! Things get easier over time but some staff become complaisant and don’t like ‘change’ or getting asked to do their jobs/sort out their attitude. You get kudos for working here and some fun stories. Cleaning standards, basics of service and general work ethic is low there so you can introduce all sorts to make pragmatic work flows. Most people work their wage due to low pay/salary and no routes for progression so you can stand out if you want to, you won’t get much or any reward for that but you’ll learn a lot and get experience of doing so. Small teams so it’s easy to communicate with everyone. Very good at sharing who does what in the company so you can contact whoever to make positive change.

Cons

Late nights. Low salary pay. Dirty joint customer/staff toilets. Your job requirements at one venue may not match the same input or diversity of skills needed at another. Leaking and mouldy building on customers and staff which has been ongoing for years with ceiling and room falling in people. A lot of people have been here for 7-12 years and never had a pay rise, some are still on basic living wage even with a decade of retail experience. The only time folks will get promoted is when someone leaves. Most jobs advertised are basically summed down to and selected on a personality contest and who you know rather than experience.
