I ignored the red flags before joining this company because of the overwhelmingly positive reviews here. In hindsight, that was a mistake.
The first major issue came before I even started: the company changed my OTE by roughly $60k at signing and essentially told me to take it or leave it, despite the role itself remaining unchanged. That should have told me everything I needed to know about leadership and integrity.
The second red flag was the sales leadership structure. The company hired multiple layers of “leadership” with little to no meaningful real-world sales experience. Decision-making was driven more by internal friendships and politics than actual sales competency. Experienced reps repeatedly raised legitimate concerns and were consistently met with confrontation and a complete lack of understanding from leadership.
The third issue was the complete lack of a realistic ramp. New reps were given virtually no time to build pipeline while one favored salesperson was effectively allowed to lay claim to the vast majority of viable Chicago prospects. Instead of building a fair and scalable sales organization, leadership chose to protect internal politics at the expense of the broader team. In hindsight, the short-sightedness is not surprising given the inexperience of the management structure.
Ironically, I was eventually fired by managers who were themselves let go shortly afterward as the company continued to underperform year over year despite receiving significant funding.
The final straw: I’ve spent over six months trying to collect commission compensation I earned. I was ultimately told the company would not pay because they failed to retain one of the largest properties in their customer portfolio, something entirely outside of my control and a direct result of broader operational failures.
If you’re considering joining, look carefully beyond the curated culture messaging and glowing reviews. There are far better-run organizations out there that actually respect employees and honor compensation agreements.
