My experience there was so bad - board members would borrow money and not repay me. My boss asked me to cancel a house purchase because he wanted to buy the place. Loads of inappropriate gender and race behavior...ask about the turnover and the culture. Why is everyone leaving?
The employee culture and work life balance at SEMA was unmatched. i.e. bbqs, bowling, bingo, the holiday party, the SEMA show, and more. People seemed happy to work there. Staff were mostly friendly and helpful. I would work for SEMA again...
Cons
Some challenges included gaining trust from upper management to accomplish simple tasks. As a practitioner, I found it baffling that my ideas were often rejected. Also, HR is an extremely important function in any organization from an employee relations perspective to benefits, etc.... HR leaders should be perceived as strategic partners.
