Don't Get Sucked In - you can do better than this!

Pros

If you want to learn how to knock on doors in sketchy neighborhoods in all kinds of weather conditions while earning less than minimum wage, this is the perfect job for you.

Cons

You will be selling door to door. This is your entire job! Your pay is 100% commission only. They try to masquerade this as a base + commission, guaranteed earnings type of job....but don't believe it. If you don't sell or you get crappy territory, THEY WILL NOT PAY YOU. If you're smart, DO NOT TELL THEM you own a car. If you do, they will make you drive it to the field and you will not get any mileage reimbursement. In the remote chance you are successful in the field, your "new" job will be to convince young new college grads to work here. So, not only will you have to knock on doors selling internet, TV, and phone, but now you will have to also lie to unsuspecting job applicants about how great this is. Your advancement will depend on how many people you sucker into the "opportunity." You will never make it. The average person doesn't last two weeks here.

Pros

Awesome people Very clear path to management Huge opportunity for growth

Cons

Pay is 100% commission It's door-to-door sales no matter how much they try to spin it as a positive A lot of it is more focused on making money than helping customers You realize after a month or two that there is crazy high turnover (because most people hate working there) Super long hours

Pros

There are no pros to this job, unless you enjoy walking around Philadelphia trying to save people $5 a year on electricity.

Cons

In your first few weeks at SES you will notice a couple of things. The first is that although they advertise themselves as a marketing job they will actually have you doing door to door sales at strip malls without any leads whatsoever. The base salary equates to about 8.50 an hour and commission will vary depending on if they give you a good area where people will actually want to change their electric provider. Do Not Be Fooled! This is not a marketing job. Also most of the promotions do not include a pay increase, it just means you will have to come into work earlier. The job is 48 hours a week on the first week but within 3 weeks of getting there you will most likely be working more than 53 hours a week for that same 8 dollars an hour with no commission raise as well as having to spend your time helping to train new employees instead of focusing on your own sales. On top of that they will give you random nights were they tell you that they have company events that are pretty much mandatory that will take up probably five more hours a week of your time.
