Pros

Good benefits from SUNY system

Cons

*Most* staff in ITS are very unprofessional and should not be working in a professional workplace. Workplace satisfaction is so low that employees barely speak to each other, let alone want to work with one another. No one ever answers questions/phones in other departments, lack of motivation and commitment to job is clear. Very depressing place to work.

Pros

state system keeps paycheck and benefits acceptable, the occasional student is not horrible human being or totally unequpped for college

Cons

-Dead end job- fit in here and you will be unemployable virtually anywhere else. Opportunity or emphasis on professional development is nil. The only stated goal of the college is enrollment and retention in and of itself, without any vision to drive positive, long-term sustainable reasons for anyone to want to enroll and remain here. -Incompetent colleagues and administration. A surprising number of faculty do not have terminal degrees in their fields. An even larger number, the large majority, have virtually zero involvement in their professional field outside this remote campus. -Total lack of confidence in administration by faculty (endemic over several administrations with regular turnover), administration-faculty relationship marked by complete refusal to cooperate and work together on shared goals -Many students are completely unprepared for college. Grade inflation is more rampant here than anywhere else in the SUNY system or anywhere else known, because the college feels it cannot afford to lose a single student. -Somewhat overlapping with this unprepared group, are students who have no desire to be in college and no respect for the college, which they may blatantly display for the same economic reasons. It is akin to teaching the behaviorally challenged in a public high school. This school was recently faced with a serious lawsuit. As best I could discern, there was serious ground for this lawsuit, although the college was able to pull through it, likely due to political wrangling that is not in the interest of the public good. The school was also very recently put on warning by its accrediting agency, Middle States. Essentially, the place is in crisis, a sinking ship where the captain is punching holes in the ship. The majority of people onboard seem aware that there are serious problems and that they are being led in an unfruitful and dangerous direction, but are either too apathetic, incompetent or disorganized to pull together to change this place for the better.

Pros

Something to tell your therapist about Some good people, but overall not conducive to getting anything done.

Cons

Poor leadership Fiscally managed poorly Not doing right by students Work is not valued so much as personality - no consequences for anyone All positions by power of the union go internal first before being posted. Leadership has all been there for a long time.
