Pros

"Strong Beginning, Embracing Innovation, Active Participation, Attentive Leadership, and Exceptional Colleagues"

Cons

"After a month at the organisation, it became apparent that a small group holds sway over management's attention. The Athens Commercial Team displayed unhelpful and bullying behavior, often being dismissive and condescending instead of leveraging their expertise to assist. Gossip prevailed among these individuals, necessitating caution in communications and instilling a sense of fear regarding speaking up"

Pros

Compensation was good and paid on time. Both the Tech stack and infrastructure were good. Employees were highly skilled.

Cons

No work-life balance. Leaving at 8 hours was unheard of. Most of the time work spilled over to the weekends (all unpaid of course). Extremely high turnover rate. It is common for employees to stay with the company for under 1 year. Employees were regularly abused by management and frequently pushed to their limits. Culture seemed to be inherited from a highly corporate environment. Employee evaluations 2 times a year – rarely were employees given positive feedback and this was only achievable through politics not through actual performance. Often the relationship with other employees was highly competitive. This has nothing to do with the employees themselves, but the culture of the company. Employees were often set up to fail by being given impossibly hard tasks and fired based on “lack of performance”. Other times the tasks were very vague and you were judged on your “lack of initiative” (even in junior levels). The job description and the interview process were misleading over the actual nature of the work. They made it seem like they were looking for a data scientist, while they were actually looking for a software engineer that often did manual data entry tasks. A lot of the products of the company are based on what was referred to as “human-in-the-loop” (i.e. people manually “correcting” the predictions of the ML models). A lot of emphases was given on this and not so much on actually improving the models.

Thank you for taking the time to provide such detailed feedback. We appreciate and value your input. We do understand that maintaining a work-life balance when working at a startup can sometimes be challenging. Inventing and marketing software solutions that have been adopted by more that 50% of the global oil transportation industry in less than two years has come with amazing commitment and hard work by the team. We are really proud of our collective achievements and strive to provide a work environment that offers great opportunities for impact and growth, while also respecting every individual and caring for their wellbeing. We are truly sorry to hear this was not your experience. Regarding our culture, we have taken steps to simplify and document the way we work in teams and have clarified our desired work culture. We have invested in re-connecting the team that has grown at times of COVID and made numerous changes that hopefully address many of the points that you raised. In a 3rd party survey we conducted, our team opened up, gave their feedback and the overall score indicate a well-perceived work environment. If interested, I would very much like to hear your thoughts and better understand your experience, so we can improve further. Please, reach out to me at a.garefalakis@thesignalgroup.com. Thank you - Adonis, Director People & Culture.

Pros

-Competitive compensation and benefits package. -Access to valuable training

Cons

-There is a bullying culture within the Athens pod, with little support or knowledge sharing when seeking help. I saw the same treatment for other new starters, which upset me a lot. As I knew it was out of my control -Inconsistent enforcement of guidelines, with threats of failure for non-compliance, while others disregard guidelines without consequence. -Need for access to necessary resources, requiring persistent effort to obtain. -Widespread gossip and backbiting in the Athens pod, fostering a toxic environment of caution and fear. -Unprofessional conduct, including disclosure of others' salaries by a member of the Athens Pod. -Removal of my previous reviews suggests a culture of suppressing feedback rather than addressing issues constructively. -Overall, the onboarding and work experience fell short of expectations. Repeated attempts to provide feedback were met with review removal, indicating a disregard for constructive criticism.

Hello, Thank you for sharing your feedback once again. It's important for us to address any concerns you have. Please note that Glassdoor reviews cannot be removed by any company administrator. We have responded to your review on Glassdoor multiple times, but unfortunately, we haven't had the opportunity to have a direct conversation with you. We would like to extend an invitation to discuss your feedback in more detail, outside of the Glassdoor platform. Here is our response to your review: "We truly value your input, and we are sorry to hear you experienced things that do not align with our company’s values. We will look into this further and discuss internally. At the same time, during the past year and as our efforts have scaled and become more mature, we have taken concrete steps to centralise and internationalise several aspects of our commercial operations, so that they are abstracted out of specific local PODs. We would really appreciate an opportunity to discuss the above and make sure we fully understand your feedback that we take seriously. If you like, please reach out to our HR team or a member of our management team, which ever you prefer at a convenient time and over your preferred channel." Thank you, and we hope to have a productive discussion with you soon, Signal team
