Pros

There are none. It was a great place to work truly it was but its just not anymore. Please please please if youre considering a job here dont. Just dont. Working from home is the only perk and its not even a perk now.

Cons

* no pay increase in 2024 * bonus structures that are ignored and never paid out and now delayed to following years * mental health in the toilet * stretching people so thin they cant cope and end up working all hours to try and accomodate unrealistic deadlines * more admin than fee earning on all levels * absolutely ruined by ops everyone in every department is absolutely miserable * no job progression its all fake they promise and lie about it * they lie about everything pretending its not going down like the titanic but its sinking fast and the only way to cope with it is to make low paid people work the hardest for nothing * secret redundancies where people just log off and dissapear forever * i could honestly go on but it makes no difference, unless you want your career in the toilet or your mental health stay clear. No matter what level you would come in at from assistant to partner you will do admin. You will get no real assistance on cases because theyre too cheap to hire people and theyre so desperate theyre fire fighting on all fronts and destroying the sanity of everyone who works there. * they harrass you for billing, admin, give unrealistic deadlines and are money desperate and even if youre billing well its not enough because they cant keep afloat and they know theres problems. People leaving so quickly because they see the problems and nobody to pick up their work so nothings getting done but admin.

Pros

E-Met a few nice people... who all left before me.

Cons

1. Conveyancing factory 2. Greed - caseload was completely unmanageable and when I told me other conveyancer friends in different companies the figures, they found it unbelievable. 3. Poor management 4. I had 3 different assistants in 6 months as they all left - one of my assistants ended up being a trained solicitor who didn’t understand property law. 5. Toxic 6. Culture of overworking and impossible targets.

Simpson Millar Response
2y
Hi – thank you for taking the time to review your experience of working at Simpson Millar. We’re sorry that your time with us wasn’t a positive one. As you maybe aware, our Conveyancing department was closed over 12 months ago, and in the meantime we’ve been working really hard to ensure that we can make positive changes for all our colleagues. However, to respond to your comments, our normal caseload levels were below most other firms of our size. It might be worth mentioning that you may have worked with us during the Government’s Covid Stamp Duty freeze/relief scheme. If so, these were unprecedented times where we experienced higher than average case numbers, with many clients working to tight deadlines to benefit from the scheme. Our policy of having a dedicated assistant for every conveyancer was there to offer support, it’s unfortunate that you experienced a time when there was a lot of colleague movement in this role. Whilst we don’t want to read reviews where people have experienced negatives at the firm, we do thank you for highlighting your experience, and we hope that the areas you mention have since been addressed. We’re working hard across the firm to make positive changes for both our colleagues and clients and we’re confident that we’re on the right track. Best wishes.

Pros

Co workers, good location in Leeds. Perks until it emerged with Colemans as that's when they removed them all

Cons

Poor supervision Unrealistic deadlines CEO delusional - they always claim it will be great year but loss making virtually every year They always cutting back in wrong areas Was profitable years ago until they merged with Colemans and ran it to the ground ever since A lot of racism as hardly anyone from one from BAME background on Senior management level List is endless....
