Shame about the CEO of Smartestenergy

Pros

There are some really professional and friendly people at Smartestenergy. The company itself does try to develop their people. They are fairly good payers and the benefits are quite generous. There is always lots going on and the company is growing at such a pace. There are lots of opportunities for mobility .

Cons

Unfortunately, Smartestenergy is managed by a sub-standard CEO. He is completely charming on the outside but behind closed doors he is a bully and a bigot. He makes promises he doesn't keep and plays people off of each other. He undermines his senior leadership team and does not care one bit if he makes them feel under valued. If it wasn't for him, it would really be a nice place to work. He expects people to go along with everything he says and if you challenge him, he holds a grudge and completely dismisses you and gets great pleasure out of making you look foolish. He thinks he makes himself look good by making his team look bad. A terrible snob and although he appears to support diversity and inclusion, when he is in senior management meetings, its clear its just a farce, and he doesn't at all. If anything he is quite patronising and insincere. Not a nice person at all and its a great shame he didn't retire when he told the global business that he was. A great number of people stayed with the business, thinking he was leaving, then he embarrassingly changed his mind. Probably something to do with the Energy industry doing so well. He didnt want to miss out on an excellent bonus. Other members of the C Suite try their best to try to do the right thing for the company but he is a complete control freak and gets involved in the smallest of details, its unbelievable. It could be an exceptional place to work with someone younger and more in tune with people as the CEO. Its a shame the parent company cannot/will not do anything about replacing him. Lots of good people have left as a result of the way he treated them and he simply doesn't care.

Pros

Peer group supportive and try to maintain a positive culture. Salary and benefits are good.

Cons

Staff turnover is high and senior management seem to enjoy the spectacle. Team leaders are forced into poor behaviour to serve the dominant political alliance. Poor uptake of new technology which will ultimately reduce profitability.
