Pros

There are no good reasons to work at SMT, except you do get free parking. But be aware that all new employees for maybe the first 2 years, have to park at the building next door.

Cons

Working at SMT all together is a CON. There are poor benefits, bad Culture and terrible upper management. If you have to work in the office you should know that that there is no talking, no organization and rules including laws that are broken daily. It is the most stressful, unorganized company that offers no room for growth and no room for development. If you enjoy being treated like a kindergartner and being belittled in front of your co workers then this is the place for you. If you are a hardworking employee, looking for a great career and somewhere to start fresh then do yourself a favor and keep job hunting! This place will destroy your work ethic, and dignity. You should also know that turn over is very high and upper, upper management from the President down is unorganized, uneducated, and unprofessional. Please do yourself a favor and STEER CLEAR. I really wish I would have had a review to read before starting at SMT. I was ready to run for the hills after just one week!

Pros

ABSOLUTELY NONE. As a future engineer, this is the worst, most toxic, outdated company I’ve ever applied for.

Cons

I had one of the most uncomfortable interview experiences I’ve ever encountered at this company. What began with seemingly friendly conversation quickly shifted when I overheard staff repeating and mocking things I had said, including comments about the way I speak. Even harmless remarks were twisted into something negative, which made the environment feel judgmental, gossipy, and unprofessional. Throughout the process I felt on edge, worried that anything I said would be used against me. Compared to interviews I’ve had at well-established engineering organizations, where communication is respectful and supportive, this experience felt unusually discouraging and emotionally draining. The interview process itself was also poorly structured. I was required to take a one-hour geometry test in the lobby with no real table, heavy foot traffic, and an extremely outdated calculator, and my handwritten work was criticized. After that came nearly two hours of rapid-fire questions about robotics and other topics, along with repeated reminders that I had arrived ten minutes late. The overall process felt disorganized, outdated, and unnecessarily stressful, especially for an entry-level role. I ultimately received an offer but chose not to continue, as this environment did not reflect the professionalism, respect, or modern practices I look for in an engineering-focused workplace. I would encourage candidates to read other reviews and be aware of these concerns before interviewing.

Cons

If you don't speak Spanish , good luck. Also supervisors are rude.
