Toxic Leadership

Pros

Worked with some lovely people. Lucky for them, they're no longer working there!

Cons

Leadership lack integrity or responsibility. Having a "getting it done" culture is all good but not when process and people are ridden over roughshod. Not a good idea to tell 300+ staff at a sales conference that specific individuals were being made redundant......when those individuals hadn't even been advised themselves. No concept of employment law!

Pros

Very little other than some great colleagues.

Cons

Unpleasant working environment in Aberdeen with some deceitful and dishonest leaders. Snr. HR Leadership has a poor reputation across the region and there appears to be a general lack of people skills and empathy with very little grasp of UK Employment Law knowledge and HR Policy and Practice within the business. They appear to have been ‘winging it’ for years. Lack of employee engagement and being respectful to staff and ‘doing the right thing’ can present challenges. Other than Operations Leadership in Aberdeen there is a general lack of visibility of any members of the Snr Leadership Team. The business lacks clear vision and structure and global integration appears to be non existent. The business has hemorrhaged great talent over the years and HR Snr Management appear to be doing nothing to ascertain why! There appears to have been no bench-marking or market analysis carried out in relation to compensation and benefits and there is a feeling that culture and engagement are only ever used as ‘buzz’ words to tick a box! There was no interest in employee welfare or well being and staff stress levels were and probably still are at an all time high!

Pros

Folks in the trenches with you know they have to stick together to get the job done So much chaos you can take ownership of substantial bodies of work (until it actually required funding). IT department is on the ball and CIO seems to know what needs to be done

Cons

Process integration of group companies not complete Budgeting process is opaque Management are encouraged to fight out issues, it is survival of the fittest and negativity flows right down the organisation from that Made to feel you need to work extra hours seven days a week just to keep afloat Missed promises for bonuses and pay rises More money spent on strategy consultants than delivery and completion of work already needed and in flight Personal benefits very poor, don't expect to retire on your pension You may find out from a PowerPoint that you are being made redundant
