Destroyed my mental health - Shocking HR practices
Pros
Good pay and some nice people
Cons
They drop people from their employment with no consideration for that person's welfare or how their approach to terminating the contract might affect the employee. They seem very devil may care in sacking people, forgetting they're people. I was informed of my firing via WhatsApp. I've never experienced unprofessionalism like it - they essentially informed me on Friday I needed to come in on the following Monday to be fired. It was incredibly obvious. I asked management about it- she was very cold and formal. Its like my previous 5 months of employment and friendship never happened. She clearly was told to be strict about the process but they forgot I am a human, they destroyed my life with the manner they went about it. She even used lingo we were taught to use with our customers, and then said "don't let this effect your weekend". I don't know why she thought that was appropriate to say. I didn't go to the meeting on Monday because I was so unwell from the cruel way which I was suddenly being treated. They were completely aware of my health issues but still chose to act in a way which led to me being in hospital. Instead of being concerned for my welfare, they decided whatsapping me and then emailing me was sufficient. They knew they messed up with how they treated me however, because two members of management both text me later on to ask if I was okay and they were available if I needed to talk. The COO asked me to stop communicating with them, even though it was them that reached out. Management would treat some team members in the same manner as if they were a clique in school. There were moments I felt incredibly uncomfortable with how management spoke to people and the way the management team would be giggling over inside jokes while the other team members felt uncomfortable. They would joke about how there is no HR in the company (as its under 50 employees). They've made a simple job incredibly complicated by their procedures. Some processes were so unnecessarily complicated. I'm dyslexic and some of the processes took me weeks to learn because of how complicated they were. It's incredibly obvious if they don't like you and don't think you fit in. I worked 12 days in a row in my last two weeks there. I had covid for my last week. I was invited to my firing over Slack. I had to clarify that it was a formal meeting because of how unprofessional it was. They invited me on the Friday afternoon to come on the Monday morning, so if I wanted any representation to come with me, they made it impossible to arrange. The CEO tries to be inclusive, but he's definitely part of the issue when sacking team members. Why would he allow his management team to act this way if he wasn't the one who influenced it?
