Pros

Spot Runner is a shop that eagerly devours new technologies. They see a shiny new bauble, grab it, shake it around, see if it rattles, then decide whether it makes sense in the bigger picture. For a technologist, it's a potentially great place for learning new things and building some solid engineering experience. That is however if you can stomach the office politics, the revolving door of engineers coming and going, and the seemingly quarterly re-orgs.

Cons

Absolutely piss poor career management and opportunities. Management more concerned with territorial pissing matches than working cooperatively to you know, make a buck and succeed. A lack of vision that starts from the very top and trickles all the way down through the entire executive staff.

Pros

Spot Runner definitely has a great idea and is trying to fill a void by providing an advertising outlet for small entrepreneurs

Cons

Highly political and a poisonous environment. Product and Engineering hate each other and are always at loggerheads. Product cannot get their act together to decide the product roadmap and strategy. Too much "spinning of wheels" going on there. The management is THE worst I have come across. They foster and encourage an atmosphere of lackeys and yesmen and are the least productive people in the company. They have inflated egos and stifle creativity and efficiency

Pros

Working with bleeding edge technologies. Spot Runner is working with the latest and greatest from Microsoft. There are a lot of extremely talented individuals across the engineering group and there is a great sense of teamwork and togetherness.

Cons

The biggest problem is Spot Runner does not value its employees. They have gone out of their way to recruit some of the most talented people in the business, then they proceed to treat them horribly. They expect their engineers to work ridiculous hours and do not reward them for it. Employees are given stock options as a part of their compensation package and this stake in the company is supposed to be compensation for the ungodly hours. It just doesn't balance out (and SR remains a private company). I am not just making a blanket complaint about overtime. Any good engineer will put in the time needed to finish the job. But spending endless hours on products that are going nowhere isn't exactly rewarding.
