Pros

The kids are amazing and the only reason teachers stay, to be honest. Most of the other teachers are great, too.

Cons

The leadership/administration is, in a word, bad. They treat teachers like their little lackeys and expect us to do a bunch of extra work for terrible pay, especially in comparison to the School District of Philadelphia. They will give you extra duties constantly without any extra pay (or even bothering to ask), have been horrific with their COVID policies, and are passive aggressive (or just straight up aggressive) whenever you bring any concerns up. They pretty much send the message that they want you to shut up and deal with whatever they decide to throw at you. The school rarely, if ever, acknowledges issues going on in the community (especially regarding racism). When they do, it's several days after the matter and lukewarm at best. So many students of color feel uncomfortable here because of the environment leadership has fostered; it's gross. They keep around a teacher who everyone knows says the n-word in front of her students, and isn't actually qualified to teach. How is this allowed? The owners of the school don't have any qualifications when it comes to running a school except having the money to do so. They're all chiropractors, which is fine and dandy, but that doesn't cut it in this industry. Teacher turnover is a HUGE problem. I've been here less than 5 years and am considered an old-timer because so many people come and go. One of the main reasons why that is: the pay. I get paid nearly $10K less than I would in the School District of Philadelphia. By comparison, the "owner" of the school (who no one ever sees; I legitimately have NEVER seen her) pays herself $220K. Because that's ethical....

Pros

The students at the school are socially wonderful. They are very respectful towards teachers. Having iPads for all students is both a blessing and a curse.

Cons

This school is 100% about image. Any student or staff member could confirm this if they were to be honest. The reality beyond the image is that the school is highly disorganized and dysfunctional. It starts at the top and just trickles down. There is so much shadiness going on behind closed doors but the administration will sell you on fabrication that the school is innovative and elite.

Pros

Annual bonus plus salary increase

Cons

Punitive arbitrary time-off policy with no separate sick days (10 days PTO total). Teachers are not allowed to print or use paper. Classroom facilities minimal, supplies meager. No allowance for supplies. Huge amount of paperwork to complete every week outside of school hours. Poor communication from administration. Inadequate school discipline; no consequences for bad student behavior. Long days and short lunch periods. Chaotic..admin seems to be making it up they go along.
