A great company to work for

    Pros

As SA continues to see substantial growth, I feel it is important to offer a critical review of the companies’ offerings. One must really question the maturity of these 'professionals' who take the time to slander a company online. I worked with SA for around 7 months; hence, will not touch on career progression but rather what to expect for a 'graduate-level' introduction. In a brief digression, these reviews must be written with consideration of the wider recruitment industry. If you are not willing to pull your weight and build on the team's drive, recruitment isn't for you. Granted SA is less overarching when compared to larger Recruitment agencies; however, this is typical of more boutique agencies and comes with a level of expectation rather than coercion from the management. A more mature workplace. Pros: - Ethos. In an industry that is plagued with criticism for being generally careless - thinly veiled by the cries of "we're not all like that" and other clichés - the attitude of fostering lasting relationships is undeniable, with Consultants encouraged to go out and meet contacts/clients regularly, check in on existing placements and generally adhering to best-practise. Beyond the obvious benefits, it is staggering how many contingency recruiters fail at this. - The work/life balance. Unlike many agencies who revere those staying past the typical working day, there is no such expectations and the vast majority leave before 5:45 - 6 pm. - Company image. Working for a Company that is known and genuinely respected within such a niche market makes your life as a consultant far easier when it comes to expanding networks, making introductions and ultimately placements. - Perks. Whilst I could ramble on about all the cool perks such as a barista to make your coffee, pool tables and 'chill-out areas' (don't get me wrong it has all of these). Ultimately the important things are done well. Attractive healthcare package, respectable leave and realistic management who won't have a conniption at the thought of you asking to WFH when it is needed.

    Cons

Whilst the training and general onboarding SA offers to new employees is rigorous, I sometimes felt there was an absence of a marketing support when it comes to consultants advertising roles. Greater employee bargaining power, bred from low unemployment means it’s hard to attract top applicants; hence, it would be nice to see more investment towards this moving forward. In lieu of career progression, I will address previous comments by saying SA has recently updated their corporate structure – leading to more defined factors in how one can progress within the company. For obvious reasons, I cannot comment on how well this is enforced.

A recruitment company with a difference and a great place to learn

    Pros

As a grad, you are surrounded by hard working and intelligent people with many years of experience in business (recruitment or otherwise), who are happy to share their knowledge in order to ensure your time with SA is a success. The team driven nature of the business means that all employees are incentivised to help each other, which is a great way to operate. The lack of KPIs also allows for a good sense of autonomy, aided by the fact you are able to manage your own diary and meetings, which sets the company apart from other recruitment firms. There is a great ‘people’ element to the company, in that cultivating a relationship with both candidates and clients is at the forefront of what consultants are expected to do, which allows for a very warm and network driven working environment and a relative lack of cold calling; as well as giving you great people/client facing exposure at quite an early point in your career. The starting salary for graduates in this industry is also good, and the remuneration once you have established yourself in a team and your start to see commission is very good, but that can take up to around a year. The opportunity to work internationally is there as well, however this is reserved for the more experienced consultants. Generally, it is a good place to develop soft skills which will help you in any career - and if that career is recruitment SystemsAccountants would be a great place to do it.

    Cons

Training for new starters could be more formalised, and it can often feel that new starters join without a real plan for what there is to do, especially if joining at a quieter time. Although the help is there if you need it, more structured guidance could be given - such as spending time in different teams. The lack of KPIs can also lead to a lack of rewards as well. Whilst the pay is good, more could be done to incentivise consultants without having to have a formalised target scheme (such as more focus on social events outside of work, or perks at work as well). The company prides itself on being somewhat old school, but as it continues to grow it needs to mould and change its approach if it wants to continue to attract and retain graduates.

A great place to start your career

    Pros

SystemsAccountants is a great place for graduates to start out their career. Both the London and Market Harborough offices have a welcoming atmosphere from day one, and with employee tenure ranging from as long as 20 years to brand new starters, there is a variety of colleagues to learn from and with. SA offers the opportunity to gain exposure to C-suite executives and senior employees in organisations from all industries as we work alongside them to resource their permanent and project teams. And the knowledge you gain around finance systems and ERP is not only useful in that specific field, but also in understanding the wider world of business.

    Cons

The company is growing quickly in a competitive market so finding credible talent to join the team is difficult.

    In a time warp

    Pros

Some nice people. Good hours/ flexibility for a recruitment firm.

    Cons

All the directors have been with the company for 10 + years and are stuck in a market harborough time warp. Very backward, do not know how to be progressive as an orgnaisation. Do not want to offer progression. The atmosphere is bizarre, people get told off for talking and it feels like a library not a sales floor. Essentially the consultants get treated like kids. The CEO is completely out of touch and has zero social skills. The people they hire are in the most part pretty dull just don't make much effort with new people which is very odd with such a small company. They are all brainwashed to be terrified of 'real' recruitment companies. They fire most new people within their first year for no reason and in quite a terrible way. There is no company ethos, everyone works in their own little unit and nobody brings the whole company together so it doesn't feel like there is an existence of any culture.

A genuine and people-focused niche recruitment firm

    Pros

I worked at SA Ltd for 3.5 years and had a blast. There are a couple of reviews on here that I don't believe are balanced, so this is as accurate-a-picture as possible, from someone who took everyday as an opportunity to learn & improve, getting stuck into the business pretty much from the get-go as a fresh grad. - Huge degree of supported autonomy - Instills confidence in you and your ability. If you've passed the hiring process (which has got a lot tighter in the last year!), you'll be invested in as an individual. - The culture is "do right by the client/ candidate". You learn how to go about business/ relationships the right way - there are no underhand stereotypical "recruiter" tactics at play - Constant encouragement to network outside of the office. You're given a company card with a generous budget large enough to cater for a meeting a day + entertainment, if you wanted that. - Incredibly well paid if you make a success of your market. I'd argue you will not be as well remunerated in other recruitment companies once you've established your market and start earning commission. - Fantastic office space with latest mod cons. - Expanding at a good, sustainable pace. - Incredibly supportive Middle/ Admin offices. The best. - For a recruitment firm, exceedingly low staff turnover (I saw another review say otherwise - simply not the case). That said, if a hire has been made and subsequently deemed incorrect, once all efforts to up-skill have been exhausted they will be let go. You can't run an effective profitable business any other way. - Opportunity to travel regularly and live internationally - Well known in the market place as a decent recruitment firm and extremely well networked. It makes it far easier to get a referral into a business and dominate a market if you're going about relationships the right way. - Decent work/ life balance: working hours are 9:00-5:30. Everyone (almost everyone) is out of the office by 6pm every night and usually in by 8:40, which is rare in recruitment. - A huge knowledge base within the company. Both in terms of network and tenure in certain markets - a lot of valuable insight. - Team based commission and paid monthly: when off, you cover your team (and vice versa) without sacrificing a process for a client/ candidate, or your own pocket. Hugely beneficial for consistency and reputation.

    Cons

    - If you're worried about job title progression, there's a ceiling after 2-3 promotions. - Due to recent international expansion, there was sometimes a feeling of lack of direction/ awareness of dynamics in the UK. That said, with any successful expansion there needs to be a rebalance of focus and by the time I'd moved on in May 2018 this was more than addressed. - Because you're in a team, if you're a new consultant learning the trade it can take a while for your commission to build up to the point of seeing it. However, you're compensated with quarterly bonuses and once you do start seeing the commission you'll likely never go a month without seeing it again.

    Pros

    - Small family focused company, with respect for personal and family matters. - Interesting niche market. - Good step from university. - Some great, hard working professionals with a real enthusiasm for working In recruitment. -positive focus on international growth.

    Cons

-No real progression or career path within the company, it is very top heavy making it very challangeing for consultants to have independence and to grow. -Significant favouritism shown by management, resulting in frustration and low moral for others. -There is a negative perception of other recruiters and recruitment companies which is inaccurate and shows a insular mindset. -company still trying to define their long term plans resulting in frequent conflicting and often negative changes. -high employee turnover.

    A great place to work

Dec 1, 2017 - Senior Consultant in London, England, England

    Pros

This is a recruitment company that employs grown-ups people that can work on their own initiative to develop strong business relationships with both applicants and clients. It is not a KPI driven sales environment but a consultative business partnering approach that has stood SystemsAccountants in good stead for 20 years. Consultants are encouraged to gain a deep understanding of their markets and treat applicants and clients with the same degree of professionalism.

    Cons

None that I can think of

    Pros

Good basic salaries, nice people by and large and high potential niche markets.

    Cons

Zero leadership at a Director/ownership level - no company direction, very little communication of ideas (other than 'make money'). Business has grown from a provincial recruitment business to an international high growth organisation, but the management has not changed to accommodate that. While staff are given time to grow a market, the reward structures when they do are incredibly linear and weighted too heavily in the businesses favor - too many senior heads taking out of the pockets of those delivering.

    Absolutely horrible place to work

    Pros

Nice salary, building is pretty, lots of free alcohol

    Cons

They don't want to spend time investing in new employees, despite their claims. Management giving feedback feels like bullying; not constructive and just a barrage of criticism. Horrible office atmosphere, people are very snooty especially if you're new, and others aren't constructive. Complete lack of training. They like to flash money around to try to make you like the job but it's all show. Awful attitude towards disabilities. And lying to people saying jobs are good when they're not is the worst feeling in the world. Oh also, beware: your salary comes out of your line manager's commission.

    Unique Learning Experience

Dec 9, 2020 - Senior Recruitment Consultant in New York, NY

    Pros

Whether you are a recent graduate or someone in the process of considering a change in your career, SystemsAccountants is a great place to make that first or next step in your career. If you also yearn for a company on a smaller scale and not being just a number, SA is a place you will thrive in, as SA is not your typical recruitment firm. For one, SystemsAccountants focuses on a unique vertical that (as their website says) bridges the gap between finance and IT. I did not know these types of jobs existed when I was in college and joining a recruitment firm that focuses on these niche financial systems positions has been a great learning experience and very exciting. SA’s niche specialty in recruiting financial systems professionals also makes SA stand out from its competitors, as SA is able to provide a more tailored service than what you would receive from the large-scale finance/accounting or IT recruitment firms. The management also allows their employees to work across various locations and industries, so you will have the opportunity to work with some of the most dynamic companies in the country and in non-COVID circumstances, be able to travel to different cities to meet with clients and candidates. Another great perk of working with SystemsAccountants has been the people. As I mentioned, SA is a smaller company where you are more than just a number, and you will be spending a lot of time together. The management have continued to initiatives to bring the company together outside of work. The company hosts a great holiday party during Christmas and a summer party to celebrate the financial year-end and for hitting various individual and team targets. The management also takes in new ideas from its employees around corporate social responsibility and diversity & inclusion initiatives. Employees in the US and UK/Europe will send out emails if they are participating in marathons or other fundraising initiatives for causes such as cancer research, suicide prevention, diabetes, and similar causes/charities. The management in the US also took initiatives during my time here to recognize the BLM movement and declare Juneneeth as a company holiday, as well as, recognize the LGBTQ community in their month of Pride, June. The company overall is very much a work hard play hard environment, but an environment that is continuing to evolve and a company where everyone genuinely wants you to succeed and ensure you have every tool and resource available to succeed.

    Cons

This role, like any role in agency recruitment, is sales oriented in nature. You will not be able to place candidates in new positions without bringing in clients to work with. Everyone in the business operates on a 360 scale, meaning you are responsible for both business development (clients) and sourcing (candidates), rather than one of these aspects. It is expected that the first 3-6 months are focused on investing in developing client and candidate relationships, so the financial rewards may not be there immediately. However, if you are able to take your own initiative and act almost as an entrepreneur and like you are running your own book of business, you will be able to see the rewards financially, both short & longer term.
