Pros

Salary is above average (country specific). Colleagues are nice.

Cons

The CEO exhibits classic “Elon Musk syndrome”: the more money the company makes, the more convinced he is that his management style is correct. Engineering management is dysfunctional. Managers and PMs focus on appeasing the CEO rather than supporting their teams. Anyone can be fired at any time, especially during probation. High developer churn is openly embraced. The CEO even writes about it in his blog, framing it as a sacrifice he is willing to make, in true Lord Farquaad fashion. Work here only if you do not value your wellbeing. In short: do not ignore the other 1‑star reviews. They are all accurate.

Thank you for sharing your feedback and for recognising the great people we have here and the market competitive compensation packages. I’m Daryl and I work very closely with the business as we continue to grow and evolve. We take wellbeing, management effectiveness and feedback very seriously, particularly during periods of rapid scale which we have just experienced. Over the past year, we’ve been focused on strengthening our foundations, including clearer leadership accountability, improved benefits, and more structured ways of working - was it all in place last year, sadly not, so has taken us a little time with a newly formed people and ops team to implement, but I am really excited to say we are seeing a much higher praise within - sorry that it wasn't the experience I am sure you hoped for when joining. We appreciate you taking the time to share your perspective and wish you well in your next role. If you'd ever like to chat more about these thoughts please do reach out to me or my team so we can help support the team within THM of which you spoke highly of. Thanks!

Pros

very good and collaborative team

Cons

Overworking is a must if you want to keep your job, low pay (location based) which is racist. They force you to install monitoring software, and the only benefit you will get is your actual salary (don't expect any pay raise). Overall just not worth it.

We’re sorry your experience felt this way. TryHackMe is a scaling company and there are periods of high pace where some teams may work longer hours, particularly around launches. We are open about this during the interview process so expectations are clear. For many people, that pace also comes with opportunities to work on exciting projects and meaningful initiatives with real career growth that they wouldn't be exposed to elsewhere. We use location based pay based on local market rates and cost of living indexes. This approach is not connected to race or background, and it’s designed to keep compensation competitive and fair across the 34 regions that we employ in. This means employees aren’t disadvantaged by where they live. We review our salary bands regularly and are transparent about how we benchmark compensation. We do not use employee activity monitoring software, and we have no intention of ever doing so. We use an MDM solution to meet security and compliance standards to maintain our ISO 27001 certification. This enforces protections such as encryption, patching, antivirus and screen lock policies. It is limited to device level security settings and cannot view, collect or access content stored on the device. Finally, we have held 3 rounds of pay review this year, including a cost of living adjustment at the start of the year for all eligible staff, and performance related pay rises, bonuses and promotions. You were not eligible for the former as you were paid at the highest end of your salary band for your role and location. For any future candidates, we welcome questions about workload, pay and security tooling during the interview process. Thanks

Pros

Talented and hardworking co-workers Remote work

Cons

If I could give less than 1 star, I would. You’ll notice most of the recent 4–5 star reviews appear right after retreats, encouraged and monitored by management. “Founder-led” here really means micro-managed by inexperienced founders who often speak in demeaning tones, minimize the effort of employees, and fire people at will. You’ll quickly notice the company struggles to retain staff, and most employees don’t last a year. There’s no real structure, no long-term improvement, and any feedback is brushed off with, “TryHackMe isn’t for everyone.” The focus is almost entirely on branding and marketing, while the engineers and product teams face unrealistic pressure and toxic communication daily. And if you’re a woman, it’s even worse; different standards, constant undermining, and little respect. As for benefits or compensation, don’t count on them. You’ll soon learn you “don’t qualify” for most of what was promised. I couldn't say it better than this: "The product is great and has a lot of potential. The team is full of extremely talented individuals. Unfortunately, rotten apples in leadership are holding the company back, and that's a real shame. The two co-founders have no business acumen. They also seem to think they're experts in design, marketing, sales, you name it…go figure."

We’re sorry it felt this way, and we take what you’ve raised seriously. A couple of points we want to clarify for anyone reading. We do not ask employees to post positive reviews, and we don’t monitor or track who writes them. It’s common to see more posts after a retreat simply because people feel more connected and are prompted to share feedback publicly. On culture and leadership, we expect communication to be respectful at all times. If anyone experiences demeaning behaviour, we want it raised so it can be addressed. We also acknowledge the points on pace, retention and structure. As we scale, we’re actively maturing planning, manager support and long-term ways of working. Finally, on the concern raised about women being treated differently, we take this especially seriously. We’re committed to a workplace where everyone is held to the same standards and treated with equal respect. We also care deeply about representation. We currently have more women than men on our Senior Leadership Team, and above-industry-average representation of women in our technical teams. If anyone feels they’ve been treated differently due to gender (or any other factor), we encourage them to raise it so it can be investigated and addressed promptly.
