Everything else.
Abhorrently low pay, constant micromanagement, a COO who isn't even paying attention to key issues more than half the time, high level of distrust for employees despite giving them expert status, no room for advancement unless you're of kin...And that's just the start.
Turnkey Marketing is perhaps the textbook example of a toxic work environment for both new and veteran marketers.
The problems with this company begin at the top and worsen at the department level. If you had to list one primary issue with how Turnkey Marketing operates, it's their unwillingness to listen employees needs and provide transparency, especially when it comes to handling workplace issues such as bullying, inexperienced middle management, and a lack of context as to what level of work we're supposed to offer. Because managers need more visibility than you, you'll spend more hours logging your work on the CRM than actually doing the work.
Safe to say, favoritism is in this company's ethos. Nearly a third of the company's upper leadership team is made up of family members of the owners, with a lot of really questionable picks for managers that instantly show their lack of expertise both in SEO and in management. Don't be shocked when HR, who happens to be closely related to the CEO, favors a family friend or relative over the most frivolous of issues.
When the owners do take action on complaints, the damage has already been done and is far from repair, with key team members gone and remaining team members struggling to pick up where they left off.
Marketing services are unstable and of low quality due to frequently changing demands in clients' needs and a lack of training from directors or managers. Their focus on profits has made them cut corners in using an outsourcing team on every facet of the business, and the quality of that work shows.
Overall, it's hard to work here without worry. Job stability has concerned us all ever since we had a round of layoffs and disappearances due to poor performance (whatever that means). The owners also thought it would be a great idea to terminate our director, who was suffering from an illness and a stroke, for the sake of "efficiency" and better results.
