Pros

Great people, good job security—can easily make a career of being a DIA officer with promotion opportunities, and good work/life balance.

Cons

Intelligence community running a comms shop without a comms-trained lead? That’s the biggest downside. If you’re used to having direct access to the boss, the org chart makes that difficult as well.

Pros

Federal benefits. Honor and privilege of being an appointedd officer of the US civil service. Security cleance. Fascinating work.

Cons

Poor management and toxic leadership. No accountability for investigated and proven mismanagement and retaliation. Favoritism, cronyism, and lack of integrity demonstrated by far too many senior officers and senior executives. Competence, quality work, and productivity do not matter.

Pros

Even though this is a 9-5 job, DIA is usually very flexible in how you fulfill those hours. There are a lot of opportunities to take stretch assignments, joint duty rotations, or other career broadening opportunities. As to the people, I've found the vast majority of them easy to work and dedicated to serving the public interest.

Cons

Advancing beyond the GG13 level can be difficult for many people. It often involves opportunities that take you away from home for extended periods of time. For technically minded people, advancing beyond GG13 may see a lot less scientific involvement and a lot more administrative work.
