Excellent Mission, Good PTO, Little/No Employee Motivation

Pros

The mission is excellent, serving the work of the Catholic Church as a resource for dioceses across the nation is necessary and important work. After COVID-19, a WFH policy has been implemented giving employees the option to work 2 days remotely each week. Additionally, employees automatically receive 20 days of vacation and 12 sick days upon start of employment which is an amazing amount of PTO. Relaxed work environment most of the year other than quarterly meetings. Flexible work schedule, and offer of pretax SmartTrip benefits.

Cons

No merit raises to award motivated/good employees and no opportunities for promotions. Emphasis is placed on external hires rather than promoting and fostering development of younger internal employees. Employees are hired based on age and years of work experience regardless of applicable qualifications to a given position. HR is uninterested in increasing pay or promoting employees deeming that job descriptions remain the same as original hire even when AORs have completely changed for the employee.

Pros

Good pay, good hours, flexible schedules, nice parental leave policy. People are pretty nice. Cool opportunity to apply theology to policies and pastoral programs.

Cons

Few women in top leadership roles, and many who are in those roles experience difficulty that they attribute to bias.

Pros

PTO is generous and above average Healthcare benefits are above average Work is generally relaxed most of the year minus the bishops meetings in the spring and fall

Cons

Work culture is very isolated and siloed; collaboration and teamwork rarely occur between staff There’s no room for promotion or advancement HR department doesn’t help employees find meaningful opportunities to improve their career and prefers to stick to archaic policies and procedures Senior management have little to no vision for their department’s work and have no time to invest in their employees work or give meaningful direction Bureaucracy makes it difficult to get anything done New ideas are looked down upon and rarely get approval from upper management Hard work isn’t rewarded or recognized
