23% positive business outlook
Pros
Benefits, flexible work schedule, ability to help those in need
Cons
Little/no room for growth, borderline nonexistent training, job duties not clear, high staff turnover so always overloaded with work
Pros
- Great local management teams. - Great coworkers, extremely knowledgeable. - Sense of accomplishment and belief in the mission. - Assisting your local communities.
Cons
- Terrible upper management. Political instability. - Outdated computer information systems. - Work/life balance. To make up for the low pay government positions used to offer incentives like work from home a few days a week, alternative work schedules (just work your 40 hours a week, start and end time changes as you want), and job security. All of these are gone or on their way out. - Burnout. Entire teams have resigned, under the threat of being fired, or have been fired so the work of 20 people now rests on a single person. There is not enough staff. Literally half of this agency’s staff no longer exists.
Pros
benefits, job security, flexible work schedules, paid sick leave, great vacation package, excellent life insurance packages for young families and retirement plans.
Cons
There is the typical government bureaucracy. The location in St. Louis is in a very bad area so you do not feel safe.
Pros
Work life balance is excellent. Flexible work schedules.
Cons
Slow to adapt. IT is five years behind the private sector.
Pros
Benefits like time off, work schedule flexibility.
Cons
Low pay, Not a lot of advancement opportunities.
Pros
Diverse programs that provide assistance to rural communities. Teleworking is available as well as a flexible work and leave schedule.
Cons
Because of the perpetual hiring freeze, as people retire or leave they are not replaced and their work is divided up among staff. I had better health care benefits when I was in the private sector. Budget cuts play havoc on any type of long-term planning.
Pros
To some degree I liked the extremely flexible work schedules and telework, but that also meant that there were at least three people on my small team who never did anything. As far as I could tell, a couple who were teleworking permanently weren't even working most of the time and didn't produce anything to show otherwise.
Cons
This was an extremely hostile work environment. With the exception of a telemarketing job during college where I only lasted two weeks, this was the worst job I have had in 30 years in the work force. I have several years in the Federal government, so I was forced to stay only until other agencies started hiring again after the sequester.
Pros
Good benefits, time-off, maxi-flex work schedule
Cons
Bureaucracy, "screw up, move up" mentality, micromanagement
Pros
Flexible work schedule Great people Fulfilling work outcome
Cons
Administration changes Budget delays by Congress Pay could be better
