Pros

Good benefits Meaningful work in education Amazing coworkers

Cons

Literally everything else about the job CEO does not trust employees at any level, from product managers/directors on down No respect for higher education or expertise in one's area of specialty No value of excellent work if seen as not in line with C-suite priorities Remote/hybrid work is prohibited and/or frowned upon Lack of respect for women in leadership roles Product direction determined by C-suite rather than experienced directors who actually understand their consumers/markets Physician oversight of a nursing product

Pros

This is a great place to make a difference and work with some incredibly talented people. Students have genuine respect and admiration for UWorld. Great office environment for those who are required to come to the office. Flexible hours and reasonable workload. DFW is a great place to live.

Cons

CEO is very anti-remote work even though many employees are remote. He doesn’t seem to understand we are more productive at home. Some employees asked to come to the office, but others are not. Long commutes on top of high gas prices doesn’t motivate employees. This company has a problem with office politics. Bad blood between employees is creating a very uncomfortable work atmosphere. In some cases there is pressure to “pick a side.” Gossip and intrigue is now common place. Senior leadership makes no effort to resolve tensions and prefers to stay out of/ignore it. Company sends out yearly surveys that carefully avoid asking questions about senior leadership’s performance. The company’s success relies on a handful of extremely high performers, many of whom are looking for opportunities elsewhere because of mistreatment. All of these problems = stress, poor mental health and high turnover.

Pros

Let me start by saying that this company is full of intelligent and talented people.

Cons

However, this company both underutilizes and undervalues said employees by insisting on management micromanaging employees instead of trusting them to do the jobs they were hired to do. This stems from a fundamental misunderstanding of how to manage within the company that comes from upper management. In part, an employee’s experience at UWorld has a lot to do with their management at the company, and positive reviews on this site are from people that had the luck of having a competent manager that encouraged their growth and advocated for them instead of having a spineless manager focused on reinforcing the echo chamber upper management has crafted for itself at the expense of the team said person “manages.” The CEO needs to take his own advice to heart and remove/replace management that are “loyal” (aka obsequious) that he initially promoted to management when the teams were smaller and place people that are capable of interacting with and leading teams of people. I mention “his own advice” specifically because of the article published last year where the CEO listed 5 things he wishes someone told him before he became CEO. That was Number 4) on his list of 5. This company has yearly surveys, and employees ask for the same things each year. Management changes. Each year, the request is seen as “dissention,” even though employees experience emotional and mental abuse and a hostile workplace perpetuated by management. Employees are scared to come forward because UWorld has repeatedly demonstrated that they don’t care about the “lower employees.” They are willing to either force out or let go of people that speak up about employee mistreatment, and this is reflected in the high rates of turnover in some departments. If you are looking for a way to make a decent amount of money that may utilize some of your abilities, UWorld may be the right place for you. However, if you’re looking for a company with moral integrity or an ethical backbone, UWorld is not the place for you. All you have to do is look at the company’s core values to see where their priorities lie, and it’s very clear that employees’ wellbeing is not one of those priorities. I feel that this company’s culture is dated, stagnant, and misogynistic. I felt HR is not your advocate and that that department should be renamed “corporate resources” because they are lacking humanity.
