Great potential, ruined by toxic culture

Recommend

Pros

90% of the people are brilliant and are so helpful.

Cons

Unfortunately there too many to mention. The main issue is the toxic culture that emanates from a small number of individuals. Despite it being raised with the leadership team repeatedly, it continues. The tight deadlines only allowed for poor quality work to be done so you’d have to spend lots of time outside of work to do a semi decent job to have any pride in your work. There are people in every team struggling, but no help is offered by the leadership and worse, denied when asked for because there is no time for it, they just don’t seem interested unless you’re one of the 10% of bad apples.

Hello and thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. We’re very sorry to hear that your experience wasn’t where it should be. I’m writing this response to assure you that we are listening. It is extremely disappointing for us to hear that you experienced so many difficulties throughout your time with us. We value your opinion that this only emanates from a small group, and is not a reflection of the company, nor team, in its entirety. Whilst working hard to address and rectify each of the issues that you’ve raised, we also hope that throughout your time at Ultimate you gained a deep level of exposure, learning and personal growth that has enabled you to progress in your career however you have moved on. To ensure success in the positive changes that we’re making, we take on every piece of feedback, and hope that if you had any insight for us, you would be willing to contact me at claire.owen@ultimate-uk.com to discuss this further without judgement or prejudice, to demonstrate that we are listening and moving forward in a really positive way.

Bullying culture and no support - AVOID!

Pros

Bonus scheme A few nice staff members (usually the same ones that get bullied by the 'clique')

Cons

- So desperate to recruit they hire people under the guise that that they'll tailor the role to their skills. This won't happen, and you'll be thrown in at the deep end with zero support and some very aggressive staff members looking for someone to pick on. - There is a 'clique' at Ultimate which, when you first join, will tell you about what great mates everyone is. That circle are great mates (including upper management) and they take great pleasure in ripping your confidence to pieces if you don't fit in with them by having a bullying attitude like them. This toxic culture only means that when they don't have anyone else left to bully, they start turning in on people in their own group. - Everyone is so scared of this group that there is a massive blame culture, and staff members do yell at each other and use each other as scape goats (I was once blamed and yelled at for something that happened before I ever started working there) - You'll be expected to work way over your hours, including weekends, and they won't acknowledge this (they think it's ok because they have an office play station...) - Terrible holiday allowance and a supposedly independent HR team which will threaten you to try to make you work a longer notice period than you are legally, contractually obliged to

Hello, Firstly, we’d like to thank you for taking the time to write a review on your short time at the company. We listen to all feedback, and since 2021 we have made this a priority and have invested a lot of time asking the team what significant changes they would like to see made within the business and in the way that we work together as a team. With this in mind, and having read through some of the examples that you have included, it is clear that you left the company a long time ago and so we’re sorry that you only felt it appropriate to bring these matters to our attention now after such a long time. One such example, which you have referred to, is our approach to flexible working hours, and the team holiday allowance, both of which, amongst many other things, have been completely reviewed and we have now made enhancements in both these areas following a full comparison of other companies benefit packages within our sector to ensure we are competitive. We are very sorry that you have not been with the company to see these changes. We really do feel it is important to state at this point that we are fully aware of a very small number of disgruntled ex-employees who have taken it upon themselves to repeatedly write these negative reviews. This is exemplified in the number of repetitions of matters that were, at their time of employment, confirmed to us by the specific employees to have been resolved to their satisfaction. We are very happy to be open about these situations and the specific actions taken, where appropriate, to provide a balanced view of the facts. We stand firm that we remain open and welcoming of feedback, and actively continue to encourage it from our growing number of existing team members. It is their feelings and ideas that are helping to drive us forward, and we are passionate about continuing on a progressive path and not dwelling on these minor events that may or may not have happened a number of years ago. As we believe this to be a totally disingenuous review, we have, and continue, to invite you to contact a member of our team directly, however to date, no such efforts have been made. We can only therefore consider each matter as resolved, and these repetitive reviews to now be an unnecessary slur and classed as historic occurrences of a now very progressive and fast moving company. Should you wish to discuss this or any of the points raised to an impartial ear, we continue to welcome you to contact me on Claire.Owen@ultimate-uk.com.

Pros

Used to be a great place to work

Cons

Simply put, management do whatever it takes to make their lives easier. Listening to feedback that strokes their egos and ignoring feedback that should cause change and improvement in the business. It's a shame for those that know what it used to be like at Ultimate because it has gotten so low. Bullying is commonplace and there is one person who has caused a minimum of 5 people to leave, everyone knows who this is and is too afraid or not bothered enough to do anything about it.

Hello, Thank you very much for taking the time to provide your feedback. You have raised some serious points, all of which we take extremely seriously. Over the last 12 months, we have undertaken a significant period of transformation as a company, a key part of which is working with the team to gain their input, on their thoughts and ideas on what they feel is working well and what areas can be improved upon. We pride ourselves on our team retention and engagement scores, of which we review regularly. An example of which is within the recent listening groups that we have conducted, from which every piece of feedback has been acted upon in line with the suggestions of the team. This has by no means been to make management’s lives easier, and we are sorry that you feel that may be the case, as we are very much putting our team members at the centre of everything that we do and allowing them to steer the course of change. We acknowledge that we have lost valued team members along the way, which we feel is a natural course over the last couple of years, but we have also grown considerably and welcomed some previous team members back to the team. Our average length of service is over 4 years with some of the team having been with us for over 10 years! With the whole team that is with us today we have crafted new company values that we all work and live by, and the feedback received from the team on these has been unanimously positive. We’re sorry that you are no longer with us to see the changes and the positive impact that our work is having. We wish you the very best in your future career, and if you have any further feedback on any of the key points that you have raised then we very much welcome you to get in touch, claire.owen@ultimate-uk.com.
