Pros

Bi-weekly pay Some amazing people It’s in Cannabis People recognize the company name

Cons

*No real love for the industry or the plant or the culture. In fact, the CEO can’t stand it *Plenty of all company meetings with an admittedly hungover CEO, super classy *Extremely unprofessional and down right mean way of conducting layoffs just a couple of weeks after a pointless company retreat, think Hunger Games *Leadership Team = Sales Team = CEO’s besties and or family = Echo chamber of dumb ideas you have no choice but to follow (ex. Manifest revenue by writing it down on notecards and saying it out loud multiple time during the day…actual advice when asked how to improve performance )

Pros

I might have said salaries or coworkers before, but Vangst is laying off its work force and bringing on 1099 employees to do the work that used to be done by salaried staff. The devs team is strong, flexible, hardworking and led by a level headed professional.

Cons

It all comes down to leadership. The CEO is weak and listens to the last person (or podcast) to bend her ear, so it pays to cozy up to her. It must pay well because her tightknit circle of senior leaders (including family members and close friends) are quick to get between her and an idea that could upset the natural order at the top. Initiatives or concepts or projects are approved and announced and then disappear. The company is constantly scrambling to figure out some path to profitability and reinvention, which is never going to happen as long as those she surrounds herself with are protecting their paychecks and status . Most know little to nothing about the industry they're serving and they have been building a toxic culture of paralysis for years and it is showing in Vangst's bottom line results. By 'toxic,' I mean gaslighting, condescension, playing favorites, bullying, and putting the company into a position of big layoffs year after year. Why the investors haven't forced a restructuring or leadership overhaul or sale is a constant conversation in the lower ranks. Are they paying attention? The biggest investors are big names in the marijuana industry and listed on the Vangst website and Crunchbase. You can look at their portfolios and how some of their other marijuana-adjacent businesses are doing and judge for yourself.

Hello, Karson Humiston, Vangst CEO here. My door is always open for feedback. If you have this strong of feelings you should talk to me directly, rather than posting on the internet. Our primary goal has and always will be to build great products that solve our customer’s problems. One thing missing from your review is feedback on how we can better service our customers. This is the feedback I’m most interested in! I hope to hear from you soon and hope we can have a constructive conversation! Karson
