You earn a higher base wage than the private sector, and you receive more vacation time as your tenure increases. You are not expected, or allowed, to do more than your 40 hours a week as overtime is frowned upon due to budgetary constraints.
Cons
Many of the pros that people find in the private sector are not allowed in governmental positions. No rewards systems are in place, there is little room for advancement, and they treat their civilian employees as expendable.
