Pros

The only upside is bonding with coworkers by undergoing the same demoralizing work environment with no lights at the end of the tunnel.

Cons

If you value working for: • a meaningful product: the company is just doing a cash grab at this point and selling whatever they can get made cheaply enough in China. The mission about oral care might have been genuine at first, but it hasn’t been an actual principle guiding any decisions for a long time because... • values and culture: there is none of that to speak of. The only signs of values you can find of the company are the virtue-signaling posts on its Instagram with a plug to their site. Leadership does not care about work-life balance (you WILL get slack messages from the CEO at midnight no matter the day), and communication about projects and initiatives is inevitably pointless because decisions are already made at the top level. As a worker, you are only going to (be able to) execute their decisions and try to meet their whimsical deadlines. • money: there’s no bonus, no promotions and the company’s stock doesn’t mean anything. Need I say more? If you are a designer (or people with souls in general), please do yourself a favor and run from this. The product team runs like a frat house with all of the chaos and bullies and sycophantic characters, and none of the partying. Your input will not be valued and your work will not matter (unless you have a passion for optimizing coupon pixels and making up user research, I guess).

Pros

Summer Fridays, intelligent coworkers, snacks

Cons

Everything you see on these negative reviews is true. There is no support in your professional development. They’ve chased away or laid off some of the smartest people at the company. The entire organization is a mess, especially the leadership. Everyone at the leadership level bends over backwards to appease the CEO. It is clear the CEO doesn’t trust anyone to do their job, because he throws a fit every time there’s a decision made that he doesn’t agree with and everyone under him has to scramble to make sure he’s on board. Leadership is driving this company into the ground and chasing away the most talented people here. The entire organization is wildly unprofessional. There is no structure to reviews cycles (most recently, it was pushed out 8 months with little to no communication), information is never consistent, and there is no transparency on how promotion decisions are made (lends to bias and favoritism). Do not believe what you see on LinkedIn. All of these posts come from a delusional leadership team that’s desperately trying to recruit talent onto a sinking ship. Most people here are not happy. Pay is not competitive to other companies of similar size. Some positions have absurdly high pay - just depends on who you know on top and how much they like you… not at all based on performance. This is what happens when your leadership team is a boys club comprised of white men.

Pros

The people and a few of the perks. I have to admit they do make beautiful (albeit somewhat barely functional) products.

Cons

When negative reviews about critical business practices are being highlighted multiple times, it should hint at there being a fundamental issue. Here’s the issue with management: they’re secretive, very poorly qualified with over ambitious initiatives, operates on a “make CEO happy” basis versus using organized processes to assess new and existing opportunities, etc. The MAIN reason this place is tanking in value is because of the people who are steering the boat. No one is willing to call out the existing issues and attack the root of the problem… rather management just creates new processes that seem to create a temporary work style adjustment until things come crashing down again and everyone acts surprised. I have to say the impressive part about quip is they were once a real threat to disrupt the oral care space and that’s proven by how much capital that’s been raised (especially by a hardware company). However, it’s more impressive to see how quickly they’ve destroyed all that equity and potential for growth by having a team that leads but is not willing to take feedback and actually use their own sense to learn how to adapt.
