Heading into 2023, we continue to invest in the growth of our company. We recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy of the Republic of Korea (‘MOTIE’), significantly expanding our manufacturing and innovation center in Dongtan, South Korea, through a multi-year investment totaling around US$100 million by 2025. “Rapid growth is expected until the end of the decade for semiconductors, and – despite the recent slowing down in the industry – ASM continues to invest for growth,” said Benjamin Loh, CEO of ASM. “This expansion will not only serve our key Korean customers, but all our customers worldwide will benefit from the enabling technologies we develop in Korea.” Lee Chang-yang, Korea's Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, said, “The intended investment by ASM is expected to contribute greatly to increasing high-tech development in our country, securing a stable semiconductor supply chain, and increasing exports.”

ASM is honored to be included in the 2023 S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook as a member and the semiconductor 'Industry Mover', which recognizes the top 15% within industries for their performance on 20 financially relevant sustainability criteria. This is the first time that ASM is included, after growing our 2022 score to 69, 11 points higher than the year before. We received the maximum points across various topics, including the eco-efficiency of our operations in terms of energy use and GHG emissions, our approach to Supplier Risk Management, and our Human Rights Due Diligence process. At ASM, we aspire to be a leader in sustainability in our industry and beyond, collaborating and innovating for positive impact.

All our e-gamers in China competed honorably, but there could be only one winner. Congratulations to the team from Southeast University in Nanjing for taking first place. And congrats to the other teams in the final four from Shanghai Jiaotong University, Fudan University, and ASM. It was an exciting event for the teams from 22 universities in China and the 8 teams from ASM and we wish the best to all the students who participated.
Our annual Supplier Day event took place this year in Singapore, at our Woodlands Height location, giving many of the 120 suppliers who attended their first chance to see the facility. During the event, we networked with key partners and presented awards to outstanding suppliers for their performance and sustainability efforts.
