At the ASML Technology Conference 2023, teams from our development departments and partners shared their innovation stories and showcased the latest technological insights that are pushing the industry forward. This year saw a record-breaking 1237 submissions, 566 posters and 94 presentations from the sector's leading voices. From illuminating talks to serendipitous connections between colleagues across disciplines, it was a day full of discovery and inspiration. Together, we will continue to shape the future of technology and enable Moore's Law for years to come.
🚨 BREAKING: we have reported our Q1 2023 financial results! 👇 📈 Our Q1 net sales came in at €6.7 billion with a gross margin of 50.6% – both above our guidance due to higher than expected EUV and DUV revenue from faster installation and earlier acceptance of systems in the quarter. 📊 We continue to see mixed signals on demand from the different end-market segments as the industry works to bring inventory to more healthy levels. Some major customers are making further adjustments to demand timing while we also see other customers absorbing this demand change, particularly in DUV at more mature nodes. ⚙️ The overall demand still exceeds our capacity for this year and we currently have a backlog of over €38.9 billion. Our focus continues to be on maximizing system output. 📈 For 2023, ASML expects continued strong growth with a net sales increase of over 25% and a slight improvement in gross margin, relative to 2022. A couple of years ago the BBC called ASML ‘a relatively obscure Dutch company’, but in its most recent article, the British news outlet “takes it back” and touts us as ‘Europe's most valuable tech company.’ However, this rapid progress is not something we’ve achieved alone – it’s the result of collaboration on a global scale. BBC News recently visited our campus in Veldhoven, the Netherlands to discuss our technology and how it supports the manufacturing of microchips. Our CEO Peter Wennink, EUV assembly technician Bram Matthijssen, and Media Manager Sander Hofman spoke to reporter Matthew Kenyon about our company, our EUV technology, and our role in the chip industry. Not everyone at ASML thinks the same way, and we’re proud of it. A large number of employees at ASML are ‘neurodivergent’ – meaning they have neurological variations such as autism, ADHD and dyslexia. People who are neurodiverse are highly valued at ASML, since they tend to be better than average at analytical thinking, logic, creativity and out-of-the-box thinking. "ASML wouldn’t be where it is today without neurodivergent people, some of whom are in top leadership roles in the company. If you look at some of the strengths of neurodiversity, such as innovation and creativity – it’s what we need in ASML,” says Peter Baillière, ASML executive vice president of HR.
