Our specialist equipment enables urban children to immerse themselves in nature. The Garden Classroom (TGC) is a multi-award-winning charity dedicated to reconnecting people with nature. With our award of £2,008 they purchased equipment - including a hammock and tools- for the children who enjoy day trips and camping at their site, Hobbs Hill. Hobbs Hill (in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) is designed to offer urban children a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in nature. “Your donation is going to make a huge difference to our facilities on camp, especially for those children with Special Educational Needs. Your support will help us provide inclusive and accessible access to enriching, life-changing experiences for nature-deprived children, with impact extending well beyond their enjoyment of the camp itself. “Our aim is always to create a deep connection with nature that can resonate throughout the lives of those taking part: and we couldn’t do this without your help – thank you!” – Millie Darling, Director of Countryside Programmes
The Visionaries, a social enterprise dedicated to connecting children, young people, and educators with the natural world, embarked on a transformative journey with School 360 in Stratford. Their ambitious plan to convert the school’s concrete playground into a vibrant green space received a significant boost when the Axis Foundation stepped in to lend support. The Axis Foundation agreed to donate £9,500 towards the project. This funding went towards purchasing raised beds and an impressive array of 50 fruit trees, essential elements for the rewilding of School 360’s outdoor area. The initiative aimed not only to enhance the space but also to provide a hands-on, experiential learning environment for the students, particularly those facing challenging transitions or coming from marginalized backgrounds. Eager to go beyond financial assistance, Axis employees volunteered their time and energy to help with the tree planting on the designated day (27th March 2024). The team, consisting of Victor Williams, Georgie Doe, Emily Springham, Halima Rawat, Thomas Geach, and Vera O’Driscoll, rolled up their sleeves alongside students from reception, year 1, and year 2, to plant the fruit trees. But the collaboration didn’t stop there. Axis volunteers joined the Conservation Volunteers to take on the role of educators, hosting an engaging educational activity for the students. Through interactive sessions, they imparted knowledge about nature, sustainability, and the environment.

Teaching New DIY Skills to Brentwood Residents DIY Workshop on Saturday 15th of October In partnership with Brentwood Borough Council, we held a DIY workshop on Saturday 15th of October for residents to learn new skills to be able to fix things in and around their homes. After successfully delivering a DIY workshop in April, the client asked Luke Bradley, Supervisor if he would be willing to come back and share his expertise with some more keen residents! The workshop took place in a void property, with 5 residents attending eager to learn. Luke was joined by James Gillingham, Apprentice Multitrader who helped demonstrate several DIY skills to the attendees so they could get a better understanding, before trying out the activities for themselves. Activities included: how to remove and avoid damp and mould, how to unblock WC, basin and sink, how to prepare and paint walls, mastic replacement, how to change a front door lock and handle, and how to ease and adjust kitchen units and doors. Everyone got stuck in and had a go at everything, and everyone left learning something new!
