The teams have been very busy over the last couple of months progressing with the new development at the Greenwich Depot. To enable the construction of the Glass Plant, the existing screen from the C&D Building needed to be relocated into the new C&D screen house. This structure sits on top of 5m high reinforced concrete bay walls which enables the separation of four different size's of recycled aggregate which can then be blended to produce our products. The Glass Plant comprises of a new 25m x 20m covered storage building, new feeder point onto a rising conveyor into the existing C&D Building. The conveyor discharges onto a new Binder screen which separates the glass into four fractions - +45mm, 15-45mm, 6-15mm & -6mm. The middle two fraction sizes are sent to a Westeria lights separation system where the waste materials are removed leaving the -45mm processed glass. This material is then transferred via our wharf facility into ships for further recycling in the UK or Europe.
Greenwich Glass Plant Build In December 2024 works commenced on the construction of the new Glass Processing plant at our Greenwich Depot. Works carried out will provide space in the existing building for the new Glass Processing Plant equipment. Keep an eye out for more updates over the coming months.

During the October Half Term, Day Group sponsored a Half Term Activity Camp for children aged between 5 and 14 from the Roehampton area, run by Rosslyn Park FC Community (Jonathan Day's old rugby club). Supported by the local authority at other times, this extra week gave pupils on a Premium Grant / Free School Meals a week of activities inside and outside, with various different sports and activities (not just rugby!) with two good meals a day. They even had to help clean up afterwards. We supplied the truck as the practical element of this learning journey for the children, which gave the young children an opportunity to sit in a Heavy Goods Vehicle and experience what it’s like to drive a truck (whilst stationary), what the key controls are, and the importance of staying safe when cycling in the vicinity of large and high vehicles, including where the main blind spots are. …Lets not talk about when the children found the horn 📣. Both James Day and Jonathan Day went to visit on day 3 of the camp, together with HGV Ambassador Andy Saville. The camp was a great success and the children were very much engaged with the discussions on the day. And who knows, in a few years we may have some new driver recruits!
We are proud to share that our Transport Team has achieved continued certification to the ISO 39001 standard after the conclusion of another successful audit. This year was a recertification year which involves a higher level of scrutiny of our management system against the requirements of the standard. ISO 39001 is a road traffic safety management system devised to reduce deaths and serious injuries on our road network. The certification covers driver training and competency, legal compliance, vehicle specification, and best practices in fleet operations. Alongside 39001, we have also earned other ISO certifications, including 9001 for quality and 14001 for environment, which are part of our integrated management system. Overall, possessing these certifications demonstrates our care and commitment to our interested parties and to controlling the impact our activities may have on the environment.
As part of our ongoing commitment to fostering a supportive and balanced workplace, we would like to remind everyone that World Mental Health Day is celebrated every year on 10th October. The theme highlights the importance of addressing mental health and wellbeing in the workplace, for the benefit of people, organisations, and communities.
On Sunday 8th September 16 people made up ‘Team Day’ on The Big Blue Ride from Windsor, raising awareness of, and funds for, Prostate Cancer UK. 1 in 8 men are affected by prostate cancer in the UK. That's thousands of dads, grandads, partners, brothers, sons, uncles, colleagues and friends. The money raised will fund vital research into lifesaving treatments for prostate cancer and provide practical support to men and their families. The two distances were the Classic (40 miles) and the Epic (65 miles). Congratulations to everyone for completing the ride, especially those who got caught in a downpour and returned wringing wet! Day Group sponsored all these riders, so together we raised £4,000 for the charity.
