Identifying job scams is not as easy as it used to be 🔍 To stay safe while advancing your career, it is essential to recognize these job scam tactics: 🚨 Brand Mirroring: malicious actors often ‘mirror’ reputable companies, using actual names, titles, and corporate branding. 🚨 Early Collection of PII: In the early stages of your interview process, scammers may attempt to steal your Personally Identifiable Information (PII) using the pretense of background checks. 🚨 Chat-Only Based Interview: To bypass the need for visual identity, the interview process may be held over messaging apps, allowing malicious actors to hide behind the screen. 🚨 Rushed Offers: To trigger a fear of missing out, malicious actors create a false sense of urgency, stating the position must be filled immediately or requiring the offer to be signed within the hour. 🚨 Check Reimbursement Trap: Scammers send a fake digital check for "office equipment," instructing you to pay their "vendor" before your bank realizes the deposit is fraudulent and reverses the funds.
