The awards recognise organisations across the country who are at the forefront of driving a fairer economy as an accredited living wage employer. ENABLE Scotland is one of only three employers – and the only charity – to be shortlisted in the Outstanding Leadership category. This award recognises an employer who consistently demonstrates leadership through actions such as working to encourage others to become an accredited Living Wage employer, speaking out publicly on the real Living Wage, and going above and beyond the scope of being a real Living Wage employer.
Jean’s Bothy, a project within ENABLE Scotland, beat off stiff competition to win the Community Project of the Year at a star-studded ceremony recently held at the Doubletree Hilton, Glasgow. The annual awards, organised by the Daily Record and Sunday Mail, celebrates great Scots who have achieved extraordinary achievements. Jean’s Bothy was named Community Project of The Year with the judges describing them as a great example of a group that rose to the challenges of the pandemic. Katrina Sayer, Development Manager said: “It was a brilliant night and we are incredibly proud of our members. To attend such a high-profile event and get up on the stage in front of 300 people is daunting and a true example of overcoming struggles and pushing those comfort zones.” Janet Wilson, one of Jean’s Bothy’s’ member, added: “We are absolutely thrilled to have won the Community Project of the Year at the Scotland’s Champions Awards. It was an incredibly emotional moment for us, a massive achievement, and an honour to be surrounded by so many inspirational and caring people."
As one of Scotland’s largest charities, ENABLE Scotland is backing the UN’s ambitions to commit to Net Zero ahead of COP26. Everyone across society has a role to play to tackle climate change – be that political leaders, businesses, local councils, institutions, community groups, members, staff, individuals, and you, to overcome the climate emergency we face. Head of Charity Development Jamie Rutherford said: “As Scotland becomes the focal point for climate change next week, we must all ask ourselves what we can do to tackle the climate change emergency. It is a time for us all to be reflective about what practices and impact we have as individuals as well as organisations and what imprint we are leaving for the future. Covid-19 has and continues to be our focus while we support our members, but it is also an opportunity for organisations to change how they work."
