IEP Basecamp 2023 A Great Day of Learning! We attended the IEP Basecamp in Birmingham. The conference was the first of its kind in the UK bringing together frontline employability practitioners and first-line managers. We listened to speakers and panellists from across the employability and skills sector and beyond who shared their knowledge, provided practical learning takeaways, and shared best practice and insight on how to deliver better outcomes for programme participants. Key takeaways from the day were: 1. 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 - taking care of your own well-being is critical. As an Employment Advisor, you need to be your best self to be able to support others. 2. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘅 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 - the importance of building trusted relationships, using effective communication strategies, innovative approaches, and active listening techniques to offer solutions relevant to the participant. 3. 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗴𝗺𝗮𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘆 - how to empower individuals facing unique challenge such as those with past convictions, diverse neurological traits, or mental health issues. 4. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 - how to use empathy, active listening, and personalized communication to transform a participant’s employment journey. The day was informative, thought-provoking, and a great chance to network!
🎄 Helping Learners Get Set for the Festive Season at our Walthamstow Jobs Fair We were joined by several of our partner employers including Manpower, Amazon, Employment4All, Axcis Education Recruitment, and our sister company, TheLightBulb in our Walthamstow office at our annual Christmas Jobs Fair. We welcomed over 200 learners to help them “Get Set” for Christmas with job opportunities in Hospitality, Retail, Cleaning, Logistics, Warehouse and Education. We are always looking for opportunities to support our learners and help them find employment. The day was a great success, not only were offers of employment made on the day, 65 learners secured a job interview and participants were enrolled onto courses to help boost their employability skills. Jenna-Marie Singh, Business Manager, commented: “The aim of the day was to help our learners secure employment ahead of the festive season. We worked closely with our partner employers to create an event that gave our learners the opportunity to speak directly to employers and find a job suitable for them. We were thrilled to see so many of our learners put forward for interviews and enrolled onto courses that will help them in their journey to employment.” A huge thank you to the Walthamstow Team and everyone who attended and participated on the day who helped make the Jobs Fair a success.
Cailan's Successful Journey on the Restart Scheme The Restart Scheme, in partnership with FEDCAP, empowers individuals like 25-year-old Cailan Cook to overcome barriers hindering their return to employment. Referred by his Work Coach and struggling with motivation and health issues, Cailan joined Get Set Crawley in June 2023. Expressing interest in TV production, his Employment Advisor, Marie, strategically guided him to gain experience through a part-time role in retail. Marie's support, including interview preparation and confidence-building techniques, led to Cailan securing a position as a Customer Service Assistant. Cailan's successful journey reflects the impactful outcomes achieved through the Restart Scheme, where Employment Advisors at Get Set transform lives by challenging mindsets and helping individuals overcome barriers to reenter the workforce.
Refugee Employability Programme - First Job Placement Success! Meet Faraz Ahmed, a 23-year-old from Pakistan, who faced the challenge of seeking asylum in the UK in March 2022. Faraz's journey to employment showcases resilience and determination. Facing obstacles in cover letter writing, job applications, interview preparation, attire, and transportation, Faraz found support through Get Set UK's new REP service. Guided throughout the application process, he successfully landed his first job in the UK. Swiftly securing an interview and excelling with the preparation received, Faraz received a job offer on the same day. His excitement was palpable: "I am starting my new job tomorrow." Lyz Stepanishyna, REP Case Manager, shared, "Working with Faraz was a pleasure. We tackled challenges like confidence-building, interview preparation, and suitable attire. Faraz's motivation and positive attitude shone through, culminating in his success at Suffolk Archives. A significant step towards a brighter future!" Your determination, Faraz, is truly commendable! Get Set UK had a busy October, hosting job fairs, welcoming new learners, and engaging with local communities through employability programs. The newly launched Get Set for Work initiative, delivered for Essex County Council, supports adults with learning disabilities and neurodiverse needs in Essex. Upcoming events and courses can be tracked on social channels. Get Set for Work collaborates with Essex County Council and ECL Inclusive Employment, offering inclusive support for employers and employees in Essex. The program focuses on job coaching, breaking barriers for individuals with learning disabilities, and neurodiversity. Families' input ensures personalized service. A key aspect is supporting Essex employers in fostering inclusivity. Get Set UK aids businesses in accessing training to recruit and retain diverse talent. CEO Thomas Harley highlights the program's contribution to existing services, aiming to support those in need.
