We're proud to share that Leonardo has won two awards at the National Technology Awards: Innovation of the Year and AI Innovation of the Year. These awards recognise Sovereign Hunter, a UK sovereign autonomous multi-drone swarm system developed through our SME Collaboration Programme with Form1 Partners. Working alongside pioneering UK SMEs VOLANDER, Applied AGI Limited and Faculty, we combined deep tech innovation with prime level integration and ideation to deliver a fully assured capability that meets all UK civil aviation safety requirements and can be deployed at pace.
Leonardo’s Drone Contest X is more than a competition — it’s a chance to co-develop the future of autonomous navigation. As part of #SolversWanted, the challenge invites innovators to design solutions that allow drones to operate independently from satellite systems. Finalist teams will take on an outdoor autonomous mission and compete for a co-development contract of up to €100,000, gaining access to Leonardo’s infrastructure and industrial expertise. A unique opportunity to scale your ideas and help shape the future of UAVs. Apply by May 31, 2026. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/dGPg5fwF

If you have tuned into the BBC's latest Big Cats 24/7 2026 series, you have already seen our technology at work. Our infrared detectors sit inside the specialist rigs used to track these extraordinary animals, helping the crew capture every moment without disturbing the wildlife or breaking the immersion for viewers. We have been supplying kit to the BBC Studios’s Natural History Unit for more than a decade, from The Great British Year to Planet Earth 3. The SLX and SuperHawk thermal imaging sensors developed at our Basildon and Southampton facilities in the UK continue to reveal hidden nocturnal behaviour in remarkable detail. It is the very same technology that supports wildlife filmmakers worldwide and helps keep people and critical environments safe every day through other industries.
The unmistakable roar of the Spitfire can be heard in the skies over the UK today, as the iconic aircraft flies once again, marking its enduring place in British history. While the Spitfire is best known for its role in the Battle of Britain, it also played a pivotal part in allowing women to take their first steps into highly skilled careers in aerospace. At Leonardo sites in Edinburgh and Yeovil, the aircraft opened doors to the first generation of women who acquired new skills in engineering and manufacturing . Women were central to producing the top secret gyro gunsight in Edinburgh, as well as repairing and rebuilding damaged Spitfires in Yeovil, ensuring aircraft could return to the skies as quickly as possible. The skills developed during this period laid the foundations for generations of women to build long term careers at Leonardo and in the wider aerospace industry.
We’re delighted to share that Leonardo has won the UK Ministry of Defence Partnership of the Year award at the Defence AI Centre (DAIC) AI Awards 2026.
